In loving memory of Victoria Elena Aguilera (February 12, 1931 - March 11, 2024), known affectionately by her family and friends as "Miko," whose legacy of love, joy, and unwavering care profoundly touched all who were blessed to know her.
Born in the vibrant city of Havana, Cuba, and moving to the United States in 1971, Victoria's most cherished roles were those of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her journey from Cuba to the U.S. was marked by her commitment to family, embodying resilience, love, and dedication every step of the way.
Victoria was a beacon of light and warmth, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her love for dance, music, and her unmatched ability to light up any room were a testament to her fun-loving spirit. Her impeccable style and elegance were not just a testament to her grace but a reflection of her belief in the power of presenting oneself with dignity and poise.
Affectionately nicknamed "Miko" by her grandson in 1990, this name soon became a symbol of love and affection within her family circle and beyond. As a devoted wife to her late husband, Jorge Aguilera, and a nurturing mother and grandmother to Elena Aguilera, Victoria Pizzo Tortorich, and Jonathan Pizzo, Miko's heart knew no bounds. Her commitment to her family was unparalleled, from playing hide-and-seek, to making steak sandwiches and coaching the Pelicans and Saints to victory. Victoria's love and sacrifices proved her resilience no matter the circumstance.
Miko's legacy is one of generosity, pride, care, and most profoundly, love. Her remarkable spirit and enduring devotion to her family will forever be cherished and remembered. And let's not forget her irresistibly fun, magnetic Spanish accent, which brought joy and laughter to our hearts, whether her pronunciations hit the mark or created their own delightful version of the English language.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jorge Aguilera, Victoria leaves behind a loving daughter, Elena Aguilera; a granddaughter, Victoria Pizzo Tortorich (Greg Tortorich); and a grandson, Jonathan Pizzo (Taylor Webb), along with friends and relatives who were touched by her graciousness and loving heart.
We invite friends and family to join us in celebrating Victoria's extraordinary life during the visitation on March 14, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana. Miko's story is not just one of the years in her life, but of the life in her years, and her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her to live fully with love and joy at the forefront of their actions.
