Virginia Chapman passed away on July 14, 2021 at the age of 82. She was born on February 1, 1939 to the late Jessie L. Abinanti and Joseph L. Abinanti and was a lifelong resident of the greater New Orleans area. She attended St Henry's and St Catherine's grammar schools and graduated from St Joseph's Academy (Class of 1956). She worked at Godchaux's Dept Store for 27 years until it closed in 1986. She then worked as a pharmacy technician with East Jefferson Hospital for 22 years and volunteered at the East Jefferson Hospital visitor information desk for 30 years. Her work ethic was second to none and she cared deeply about her work and her co-workers. She was a parishioner of St. Benilde Parish and enjoyed reading, watching television (especially sports and detective shows), solving crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and surrounding herself with her loving family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry T. Chapman, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Brown (Eric) and Mary Albert (Doug), her grandsons, Brett Brevelle and Eric Brown, Jr., and many lifelong friends who will miss her dearly. Her daughters are thankful for her love and support and the many sacrifices she made for them.
For the final three years of her life, Virginia lived with dementia and COPD but never lost her spunk and sense of humor. She received compassionate care at HomeLife in the Gardens and Chateau Notre Dame and passed peacefully at Passages Hospice.
