

Virginia McConnell Walker passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. She was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She is the beloved wife of the late Raymond Bond Walker, Mother of Randall Logan Walker (m. Linda Chappell Walker), the late Raymond Bond Walker, Jr. and Duncan King Walker (m. Caroline Spangenberg Walker); Grandmother of Amory Walker Levert (m. Edward Louis Levert, III), Ian McConnell Walker (m. Alexandra Nicole Walker), Logan Alexander Walker (m. Abby Anderson Walker) and Charlotte Louise Walker; and Great Grandmother of Samuel Patrick Walker, Sidney Chappell Levert, Winnie Lea Walker, and Maximilian McConnell Walker. She was the daughter of the late Virginia Fenner McConnell and Richard Bland McConnell. She had two siblings, the late Charles Fenner McConnell, MD and Richard Bland McConnell, Jr.
Virginia graduated from Isadore Newman School, attended Randolf Macon Women’s College and earned a BA from Newcomb College where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She completed the four-year program of theological education for Ministry at the School of Theology, University of the South and was a licensed lay Eucharist Minister and Reader of the Episcopal Church, Diocese of Louisiana. She was President of Junior League of New Orleans (1965-1966), Co-Chairman WYES annual auction (1971-1972), Co-Founder of Teleboosters (1974), Chairman Teleboosters, Friends of WYES (1975-1976), Chairman Youth Services, Inc. (1976-1977), Chairman Trinity Church Outreach (1977-1978), Chairman WYES Public Advisory Committee (1979-1980), Chairman Trinity Educational & Enrichment Program (1980-1984), Coordinator of Disciples of Christ leaders, Trinity Church (1981-1987), President Junior League Garden Club (1982-1983), Trinity Church Vestry (1985-1988), President The Food Bank (1986-1987), Chairman Trinity Church Outreach Committee (1987-1990), Lambeth House Board (1997-2001). She has also served on the boards of YWCA, Protestant Home for Children, Social Welfare Planning Council WYES Board of Trustees, Citizens for Quality Nursing Care, and was a Charter member of New Orleans Unit of Herb Society of America. In 1979 Virginia was recipient of the Volunteer Activist Award in New Orleans. She was a longtime member of Colonial Dames.
Virginia was always up for a challenge and eager to help those in need. Her balance of wit, charm and grace will be missed. In lieu of flowers Virginia has requested that all “perform a special act of kindness by reaching out to others unprovoked.”
Funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church 1329 Jackson Avenue at 4:00pm on Saturday June 4th. Visitation will be held afterwards at the Parish House adjoining Trinity Church.
