

He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. Conery, Jr. and Edna Sullivan Graham, both of New Orleans, as well as his sister, Merily Conery Nicolson, and his former wife, Marcia Monroe Conery.
He is survived by five stepchildren, R. B. Monroe Kelly, Julian D. Kelly, III, Deborah Z. Hopkins (George), Charles W. Zeigler, IV (Florence), and Leigh P. Ziegler; five step-grandchildren, Emmaline Kelly, George D. Hopkins, III, Walter C. Hopkins, Anne C. Ziegler, and William W. Ziegler; four nephews and one niece, William Laube, Merily Laube, Gery Laube, Swan Nicolson, and Andrew Nicolson.
He graduated from Tulane University where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force. He spent most of his career as a writer: Vice President of the Fitzgerald Advertising Agency, and the Director of Public Relations at Tidewater, Inc.
A devoted Catholic, he looked forward to attending his annual retreat at Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, La. Besides his family, his passions included being in the Louisiana marsh hunting and fishing, being on the Gulf Coast sailing and fishing, being in North Carolina hiking, being on any tennis court playing tennis, and being with his beloved dogs, always by his side, while he carved his decoys.
He was a champion tennis player, playing for Tulane University, and while in the Air Force, he won the United Kingdom Tennis Championship for the Third Air Force at Fairford, England, and also won a Southern Championship while a member of the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club.
He was a member of several carnival organizations, the Pass Christian Yacht Club, The New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club, and the Boston Club.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Manresa House of Retreats, at 5858 Louisiana 44, Convent, LA, 70723 or to Animal Rescue New Orleans at 271 Plauche St., NOLA, 70123, or to a charity of your choosing.
