William G. Simmons Sr., a most incredible father, husband, and friend to those who knew him, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26th with his loving family at his side. Bill was 82 years old, lived many vibrant lives, and was a magnet of a man who made friends everywhere he went. Starting in Berry, Alabama as one of 12 siblings, Bill traveled around and made careers in skilled labor for automotive manufacturers, construction, and hypnotherapy. Eventually, he settled down in Orange Beach, AL where he cultivated a rich marriage with his first wife, Debra, and raised a loving family. He pursued his passions of motorcycling, started a local business of Bill Simmons Flooring, and worked to drive progress in the now-bustling city by the beach.
Following his first wife’s passing, Bill was given a second lease on life when he met Tatiana in 2005. Together, they had an amazing 20 years raising their beloved son, Vadim, and making the most of the opportunities God would offer them. With his amazing support, Bill was able to watch Tatiana flourish in a career in gemology and root for his son as he went through school and started his life. Bill continued his work as a jack-of-all-trades, pursued his passion for guitars with luthiering, and provided a beautiful home for his two stunning Russian white cats, Nata and Casper Simmons.
In 2020, Bill and Tatiana made a brave move to Metairie, Louisiana in pursuit of new experiences and opportunities. Unbeknownst at the time, this turned out to be the perfect move as a later diagnosis of AML was met with easy access to the Ochsner Cancer Center and an incredible support network which he could rely on. With all of this help and an incredible spirit, Bill was able to live far beyond his diagnosis in both time and quality and enjoy a truly fulfilling retirement with a loving family and supportive friends by his side.
Though he may be wrapping things up here, William will always be in our hearts and his time here will be deeply cherished. He left on great terms and wouldn’t want us to be sad, so let’s carry on his wishes and memories with a sense of optimism, pride, and gratitude. We know we’ll meet again, with love forever!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124, on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. The visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
