William Thomas Stockmann, affectionately known as Buddy, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025 at Ochsner Hospital. Born on July 14, 1957, Buddy was raised in Lakeview. He attended Beauregard Junior High, Ben Franklin High and received a Bachelor's degree from the University of New Orleans.
Though he lived most of his life without close family, Buddy was never alone. He was a devoted son until the end of his parents' lives and a fiercely loyal friend to those fortunate enough to be in his circle. He was always kind, considerate and polite to everyone he met. He would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere and at any time. His knowledge of his hometown and his ability to remember people, places and names was unsurpassed.
Buddy was a man of quiet strength, one who would show up before you asked, listen longer than most, and tell you the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not. He was a companion in hardship and a celebrant in joyous times.
Buddy was preceded in death by his mother and father, Homer and Johnette Stockmann and his brother Mitch Stockmann. Though Buddy left no immediate family, his legacy lives on in the memories and stories shared by his dearest friends, the ones he chose, and who chose him back, fiercely and forever.
On behalf of Buddy, I would like to express gratitude for all of the doctors and nurses that treated Buddy in the time he spent in Ochsner ICU. As per his wish, there will be no formal service, but his friends plan to gather soon for remembrance- a Celebration of Life Gathering- a time to raise a glass, tell the truth and remember a man who meant the world to those who were lucky enough to know him.
Rest in peace Bud Man, you mattered more than you could ever know.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 5th from 4:00 pm till at #30 Tern Street, New Orleans, La 70124. Please join us in a moment to remember Buddy and to visit with old friends. Email [email protected] for more information.
