William “Willie” Joseph Young met his Lord on Saturday, April 30th at the age of 60 years old. A heart attack took him from this world much sooner than anyone could have expected. Willie was born on January 14, 1956 in New Orleans, LA. He was a proud graduate of Redemptorist High School, going on to play baseball at Delgado and UNO. His successful career in sales is highlighted by his time with Kraft Foods and Performance Food Group. He was a wonderful Christian man and leader, dedicated family man and friend, and diehard for the Saints, baseball and the city he grew up in and loved.
Measuring his life by the normal standards of this world would not do justice to the worth of Willie’s life. Many years were spent at the ballpark coaching the game of baseball he loved so much and teaching boys how to become men along the way. Countless hours were given to help anyone in need, whether an old friend or someone he just met. As a member of his church, leading a men’s Bible study and offering counsel to those searching; the list of lives that were impacted for eternity by Willie is a long one. Willie had a magnetic personality and smile that brought joy to people meeting him for the first time as well as those who had already seen him light up a room with his presence for years. He will be deeply missed and although he leaves a void in many lives, his legacy will continue to affect those same lives for years to come.
Willie is survived by the wife he adored, Laurie Young; his son, Will Young and his wife, Jamie Young; his daughter, Katie Young; grandchildren, Ava Caillouet and Carson Young. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Young; father, Hank Young; and brother, Jimmy Young.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 7th from 11:00am-2:00pm with a funeral service to follow at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to: Loving Alternatives Adoption Agency, PO Box 131466, Tyler, TX 75713. Please include a note stating it is in memorial of Willie Young.
