Al passed away August 29, 2021, ten days short of his 85th birthday. Al was born the sixth of eight children to Lucia "Lou" Dooley, née Ruchuso, and Walter James Dooley. Al was born at Fort Greene Hospital and grew up with his siblings Tommy, Joey, Mary, Janet, Carol, and Frank in Brooklyn. As a kid, "Albe" loved playing stickball and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a lifelong fan of Mets baseball, Giants & Notre Dame football, and St. John's basketball.
After graduating Franklin K. Lane High School in 1954, Al joined the Marines. He started basic training during the Korean War; was stationed after the Armistice on Okinawa; and was discharged July 15, 1956.
Al loved singing "Irish Soldier Boy," including at his friend Doc's wedding, and Hank Williams', "The Girl Who Invented Kissing." He loved dancing the lindy, the cha cha, the merengue, and slow dances. Al met his future wife, Patricia Ann Cramer at a city ballroom on a blind date set-up by his sister Carol on New Year's Eve, 1963. They married January 26th, 1964, and, after two years in Ozone Park, Queens, moved to Farmingdale, NY, where they raised three children. The happy couple resettled in Holiday, FL in 1996.
Al was above all a family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and great uncle who enjoyed Thanksgivings, Christmas traditions, family vacations, attending weddings, and any excuse for a dining room or backyard packed with family and friends.
Al is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, Erin, Jim, and Michael; son-in-law Marc Hamel and daughter-in-law Sheffia Randall; grandchildren Alex, Victoria, and Beth Trifaro, Andrew Hamel, and Gabriel, Solomon, and Ella Grace Dooley; his siblings Janet, Carol, and Frank; and scores of loving, extended family.
Sunday, September 5th, the family will host a service and dinner for friends and family at Los Magueyes restaurant, 7041 US Highway 19, New Port Richey, FL. Guests are invited to come at 12:30 PM, and the program will start promptly at 1:00 PM. Casual dress is fine and bright or Hawaiian shirts are encouraged.
