Dolores Elizabeth Hurst, 96, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 20, 1928, in Coaldale, PA, Dolores lived a full and beautiful life, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
A proud graduate of Marywood Seminary, Dolores began her career as a secretary in New York City. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, she embraced many roles — from teaching ceramics and selling real estate to being the beloved “concessions mom” at her sons’ Little League games. Her creativity and care shone through in every aspect of her life, especially in the clothing she lovingly sewed for her daughters.
Dolores dedicated many years to the Dunmore School District as a skilled bookkeeper, forming lifelong friendships and earning the admiration of colleagues. She approached both her work and her family life with grace and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
After retirement, Dolores and her beloved husband, John Hurst, embraced the warmth of Florida, enjoying their golden years together. Her life was enriched by the time she spent with family, who brought her immense joy and pride.
She is lovingly remembered by her five children: John Robert and his wife, Terri, of Hudson, FL; Thomas and his wife, Mary Rose, of Dunmore, PA; Jerome and his wife, Mary, of Dunmore, PA; Mary Russo of Tampa, FL; and Sue Ann Biesiedzinski and her husband, Glen, of New Port Richey, FL. Her legacy lives on through her 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and her beloved extended family, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She is now reunited in peace with her husband, John; her granddaughter, Samantha Hurst; her grandson-in-law, Gene Adamski; and her son-in-law, Thomas Russo.
A Mass celebrating Dolores’s life will be held Friday April 4th at 10 am at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tampa, FL, followed by her interment at Bushnell Veterans Cemetery, where she will rest alongside her beloved husband.
Dolores’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who loved and cared for her. Her spirit, warm smile, and boundless love will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
In honoring Dolores’s life, may we find comfort in the joy she brought to so many and the beautiful memories she leaves behind.
