John Joseph Keteltas was born November 6, 1958 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1976. In March of 1978, John went into business as the Owner/Operator of a commercial printing business known as Popular Printing Co. in Pasco County, Florida.
After twenty-two years in the printing business, John decided to pursue his real passions and acquired his Captain’s license after a lifetime on the water. He completely rebuilt a 40-foot, twin-diesel, marine research vessel he had purchased and rechristened it the "Under Pressure." He became a certified dive master and relocated to Steinhatchee, Florida, where he proceeded to fit right in and became a successful, respected charter Captain and commercial fisherman.
John’s talents and abilities were an amazing part of his character. Some of Captain John’s many other accomplishments included becoming a certified HVAC technician as well as constructing his own house on the shores of the Steinhatchee River, which served as his new home as well as the dock for his boat. His main hobbies and interests included fishing, hunting, and motocross racing, all of which he was very good at. He was very inventive and an amazing problem solver. Many looked to him for his advice, knowledge, and expertise. There wasn’t much he couldn’t engineer and build or repair. John loved the outdoors, wildlife, and had numerous pet rescues to his credit. He was an active member of the AMA and the NRA.
John is survived by his spouse Melanie, his brothers, Stephen and Peter, his sister Catherine, nieces Sheila and Kristen, and nephews Stephen, Michael, Robert, Ricky, and Ryan.
Rest in Peace Captain John… you were a great skipper, wonderful brother, friend, and companion and are dearly loved and missed!
