Born in Manhattan on February 9th,1948 to Olga and Chester Szymanski. She lived on Long Island for the first part of her life, later moving to (New) Port Richey, Florida and then to Indian Land, South Carolina.
Survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Ray Tedesco, her loving sister Linda Howard, her 3 daughters, Martine (D.J.), Jennifer (Brian), Kellyanne (Doug) and her three grandchildren, Lana, Dave and Jack.
Karen graduated from Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing in 1968. She worked in the nursing field for over fifty years. It was her passion. Her nursing career was varied, from working in the recovery room at the hospital in the beginning of her career to being an osteoporosis specialist towards the end of her career. Being an instructor for CNAs at Webster College in New Port Richey, FL and her days of being a Palliative Care Nurse at Pasco-Hernando Hospice were the most fulfilling parts of her career.
Retirement did not slow Karen down. She loved to socialize with her family and friends, played cards, bingo and even did yoga! In recent years Karen volunteered rocking NICU babies at Atrium Hospital in Charlotte, once again putting her nursing instincts to work. She was a devoted volunteer never missing a week because she knew the nurses valued her experience and the babies needed the extra arms.
Karen and Ray also loved to travel together. They have traveled the world with some highlights including Alaska, Italy and Greece. Perhaps their favorite spots though were the beach (any place with water) and Las Vegas. Their annual Vegas trip was a tradition spanning over 35 years!
Karen loved to talk about her 3 grandchildren, they were truly her pride and joy.
Karen will be remembered for her humor, her loyalty, and her deep love for her family. They were her whole life. She will be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
