
Mary Shiffman, 87, of New Port Richey, Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th. Born in Long Island and raised in South Hempstead, New York, Mary was fondly known as “Crazy Aunt Mary” by her beloved nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her youthful spirit, loyalty to her loved ones, and a heart always ready to help those in need.
Mary was a fierce supporter of the military and police, embodying her unwavering commitment to protect and care for others. She had a love for old western movies, musicals, and the music of Elvis Presley. An avid reader and talented needlepoint artist, she also dedicated her time volunteering at Trinity Regional Hospital and participating in clubs at Seven Springs Golf & Country Club.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Shiffman; her parents, Natalie and Harry New; her sisters, Joan Castelli and Pat Damm; and her brothers, Jimmy New and Harry New. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Lauck; her son, Robert Harty, and his wife, Katie; her two stepdaughters, Francine Coffey and husband Eddie, and Beth Shiffman; her nine grandchildren, Amanda, Katrina, Tristan, Payton, Rielyn, Hayden, Adelyn, Stephanie, and Heather; and her two great-grandchildren, Lila and Charlotte. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Vinny Castelli, and her sister-in-law, Cathy New.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 8th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Meadowlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to organizations supporting veterans, such as the VA or the Wounded Warrior Program, as well as police departments or related foundations.
Mary’s kindness, passion, and love for others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
