Our beloved brother and son, Sean Samuel, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 27, 2020. Sean was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 28, 1968. The middle child, Sean stood out for his funny jokes, his quick wit, his incredible mastery of Spanish, and his phenomenal math abilities. He had lots of energy and loved sports and watching his favorite teams. Sean was a cub scout, played little league and loved bowling. He excelled at cross country running in high school and was one of the fastest runners on the team.
Sean attended Northern Illinois University and subsequently worked for 22 years raising funds to help fallen law enforcement officers. Sean was actually an introvert, but he excelled at cold calling people and getting them to open up and share their generosity to help others. Over the course of his career, Sean called over 200,000 people and obtained gifts from more than 40,000, raising well over $1 million dollars. Sean had the gift of being able to connect with people and really listen to them with a caring manner.
His supervisor remarked that there was always laughter coming from the corner of the office where Sean worked. He made other people laugh and was himself laughing all the time. He was known for his imitation of the Scooby Doo laugh, and his nieces loved to hear it whenever they talked to him.
Sean relished watching his favorite sports teams – the Bears, the Rays, the Cubs and the Lightning. He looked forward to group outings organized by the First Baptist Church of New Port Richey to see the Rays play with his mom and stepdad. Sean was a member of the church and regularly attended Sunday services.
Sean loved his family and was very close to his mom, Marilyn B. Gilbert, who passed away on September 12, 2020, and his dad, Dr. Shantharaj Samuel, who passed away on November 14, 2020. Sean was heartbroken by the recent loss of his parents.
Sean was a gentle soul and a deeply good and kind person. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Sean is survived by his stepfather, Glenn Gilbert, his stepmother, Kathy Swallow Samuel, his sisters and their families, Christine Samuel and Frank Iovino and their daughters, Summer and Vivian; Doris and John DeWolfe and their son Jon Jon; Sharon Boggs and her children, Sarah and Cory; Stephanie Samuel; and his brother and his family, Rob and Lynn Samuel and their children Catey and Kenny; and his aunt, Doris Berge and her daughter, Velvet Chong.
Socially distanced, Covid-safe services will be held at Meadowlawn Funeral Home in New Port Richey, Florida, with a Gathering of Family and Friends from 2 – 4pm and a Celebration of Life from 4 – 5pm.
