August 8, 1946 – January 1, 2026
New Port Richey, Florida.
Carolyn “Sue” Lee of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving children. Sue devoted her life to her family and to the West Pasco Girls Fastpitch Softball Association (WPGFSA) community, where her impact will be felt for generations.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Alton Lee, the love of her life and lifelong partner.
Sue is survived by her children:
• Mari Elizabeth Thieryung, Port Richey, FL
• Angela Rene Painter and spouse Charlie, Crawfordville, FL
• John David Lee, New Port Richey, FL
She was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren—Cory Lee, Nicholas Morse, Savannah Lee, Adorina Lee, Michael Thieryung, Espn Thieryung, and Danger Painter—and a cherished great-grandmother to her 2 great-granddaughters, Amara & River.
Sue was raised by her mother in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and spent many cherished summers in Lebanon with her cousin—whom she always lovingly referred to as her sister—Connie Minick. Those memories brought her endless smiles and remained close to her heart throughout her life.
In 1971, Sue met Alton, and they quickly knew they were soulmates, destined to spend their lives together. Their love was steadfast, joyful, and enduring.
During her early years of parenthood, Sue enjoyed bowling and coaching her daughters in softball, where she discovered her true passion for coaching. She also took immense pride in watching her son—whom she adored—play baseball and football.
In 1985, Sue and Alton moved their family to New Port Richey. It was there that Sue began her remarkable coaching journey at WPGFSA. Alongside her son, she became a mentor, role model, and second mother to countless girls over her 39 years at West Pasco. Sue was always there—whether someone needed encouragement, guidance, or simply someone to listen.
In her later years, Sue and Alton cherished spending their days together watching game shows, playfully competing to see who could answer the fastest. Those moments perfectly reflected their deep bond and shared joy.
Sue will be deeply missed by her family and by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her love, wisdom, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Meadowlawn Funeral Home, 4244 Madison Street, New Port Richey, on January 9th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services and burial will take place at Meadowlawn Funeral Home on January 10th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location
