Thomas L. “Tom” Meredith, age 75, of New Port Richey, FL, passed away on February 6, 2018. He was born on May 28, 1942 to Harold Wayne and Dorothy Marian (Lorang) in Long Branch, NJ, the first of four sons. As Tom’s father was in the Air Force, he moved around a lot as a child. Tom would later recall to his own sons that some of his fondest memories from his own childhood were the times he spent in Germany as a young child, and the time he spent in Puerto Rico as a teenager, which is where he graduated from high school in 1960.
In the fall of 1961, Tom enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. He was an Airman First Class when he was honorably discharged after his four year enlistment was complete. He then re-enlisted into the Air Force where he was promoted to Staff Sergeant before he was once again honorably discharged in the fall on 1969. While he was enlisted for the second time, he began attending Wright State University, also located in Dayton, Ohio. Tom went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in the spring of 1971.
Upon graduation from college, Tom went on to a career in civil service where worked for the United States Department of Defense from 1971 until his retirement in 1996. Even though he had retired from his career, he was not done working. He went on to work a few more jobs here and there before finally retiring for good in the summer of 2015. While he was in his semi-retirement, Tom took up the game of golf. As with most people who take up golf, the more one plays, the more one becomes determined to master that maddening game. Tom was no exception. Sadly, he never did master that game, but the memories he created with his golfing buddies and his sons are ones that will continue to live on forever.
Tom is survived by his wife of 39 years, Debra, and his five sons: Michael (Susan), Jeffrey (Helena), Jeremy (Jessica), Eric (Jessica), Scott, and his eleven grandchildren.
