My heartfelt condolences to Charlie’s family and friends on his passing. What a great heart he had for the Newburgh community and sports world. He will be missed in many ways. At some point in time if you lived in the Newburgh area you frequented  Pizza Chef for pizza with your  family. . I didn’t really know Charlie when I was younger, but knew him from the Doctor’s office the last few years and talked to him when he would come in.  Prayers for the family moving forward.

Charlie was a huge asset for our community. Pizza Chef was a Friday night tradition for many years.

So sorry for the loss  of Charlie. He was a staple as I grew up. As we started our family,  I don’t think we missed many Friday night pizza buffets when he owned pizza chef. He was the unofficial mayor of Newburgh! My condolences to his family.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of the family, friends and acquaintances that met Charlie as he was very kind and generous man with his time and wisdom.    A few years ago, I called Charlie to ask if I could interview him with entrepreneur questions and I will never forget that he took the time to grace me with his knowledge and wisdom.   I still have all the answers today and recently looked at them again, not knowing his time was coming to an end.   I'm sorry I missed the opportunity to talk to him again and give him an update.  He will be missed!

Sorry to read about Charlie and you loss.  We have fond memories of him at Pizza Chef and family gathering. We just moved back to Newburgh and trying to reconnect.

My condolences go out to Charlie's family, friends and all the ones whose life he impacted while coaching. Charlie was a great man. He was my baseball coach every year i played ball. He payed for me to play baseball one year and drove around my neighborhood for several days looking for me. When he found me he was in his suv and asked why I wasn't signed up for baseball that year. I told him I thought it was too much money. He smiled got out of his suv, popped the trunk and handed me my uniform and hat then said practice is tomorrow you better be there. I told him but I didn't pay... he told me don't worry about it I took care of it just show up to practice. I'll never forgot his kindness he showed me over the years. The discipline as well. The world has lost a great man, and again my love and condolences go out to his family and everyone who loved him. Rest in peace Charlie you are very much loved and will be missed sir

To the Willett Family,

I'm so deeply sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. He was a truly outstanding, one-of-a-kind person who left an outsized impact on everyone he met, mentored, and coached. I know for a fact that I would not be who I am, or where I am today, without Charlie's support, wisdom, and positive influence growing up. 

When I think back to those years, I remember Charlie as both a strong leader and a gracious mentor—he knew exactly when and where to push you to get to perform at your best, and he knew when to step in and what to say in the moments when things weren't quite going your way. 

Of all of the coaches, collaborators, teachers, and bosses, Charlie was by far one of the best I've ever had—a truly exemplary leader who always did the right thing, always led by example, and always treated his teams and players like family.

I'll always remember the All-Star trips, the Pizza Chef celebrations, and the lessons learned from Charlie on the baseball fields and basketball courts all over the midwest. 

Thank you Charlie for all that you did for me, my family, and my friends growing up. You'll be missed, no doubt, but with all the lives you touched over the years, you'll most certainly never be forgotten.

To Judy and the boys, Donald and I send our prayers for comfort and peace. Charlie was a kind, generous man who loved his family and his community.  He worked hard for so many young people.  Men like Charlie are few these days, but he has left a legacy of unselfishness and dedication for many. God bless you Judy and family.

Sorry to hear about Charlie. I worked at Pizza Chef newburgh off and on for years. We had a great crew back then. I loved Charlie. God rest his soul. Prayers for family.

How do you capture a lifetime of incredible memories in 2000 characters? Impossible.  It would take a novel to cover all of the great times we shared with Charlie. We loved him. He was a man of integrity and principles and was always there when you needed him, and we needed him a lot. He was a cherished friend and an extended family member.  He could always make us laugh, even when he was angry during athletic competitions. Charlie was a passionate person.  He loved life -  whether it was coaching some form of ball, owning Pizza Chef, or giving back to the community he lived in. Most importantly he loved his hometown and it loved him back. To say he will be missed is a complete understatement. While years have passed and our kids are all grown,  the memories we made together will last forever.  It was such an honor to have had Charlie in our lives. We are so grateful for our time together and am sure that he is looking down on us still clapping his hands and cheering us on.
