

Dean R. Voegerl, 66, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born September 24, 1948, in Shelbyville, IN, to the late Urban and Phyllis (McCracken) Voegerl.
He worked as the terminal manager for Old Dominion Freight Lines for 15 years and was very dedicated to his job and his employees. He had worked in the trucking industry for over 40 years. Dean received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO and his Associate of Arts degree from Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, CO, where he received full baseball scholarships. He graduated from Jasper High School in 1966. He was a standout pitcher for the Jasper Wildcats, Jasper Legion and Jasper Reds. Dean was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodger organization on February 1, 1969. He was a member of First Christian Church in Newburgh, IN. He enjoyed sports, fishing, going to Ellis Park with his sons, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Urban “Bull” and Phyllis Voegerl.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jan (Day) Voegerl; sons, Jason Voegerl (Laura), Corey Voegerl; grandchildren, Brock Voegerl, Brooklyn Voegerl, Blake Wainman; sister, Debbie Houchin (Tom); brother, Brad Voegerl (Amy); nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Steve Day (Marian).
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Fritz Kaufman and Fr. Tom Kessler with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday, 2-8 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Newburgh Area Food Pantry or First Christian Church.
