

She was born January 18, 1944, the daughter of Vernon E. Tapp and Mary Alice (Nall) Tapp Buckman, both have preceded her in death.
Donna was a graduate of North High School (1962) and Deaconess School of Nursing class of 1965. Devoted wife, loving mother, adoring sister and life-long RN, Donna worked in military hospitals during the Vietnam War. She held a variety of nursing positions. Those included Assistant Clinical Instructor for Deaconess School of Nursing and working Civil Service for the U.S. Army in California and Washington State. She was with the Vanderburgh County Health Department for twenty-one years as a Public Health Nurse, also assisting with the WIC program before retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John N. Berning, Sr.; son, John, Jr. of Louisville, KY; grandson, Gabe; sister, Rebecca (Tapp) Dixon of Noblesville, IN; brother, Les E. Tapp (Edwina) of Christina, TN; nephews, Brian Dixon (Katie) of Indianapolis, IN and Jeremy Tapp (Katie) of Washington, DC; niece, Christina Wondra (Matt) of Champaign, IL; two great-nephews, Will and Drew Dixon of Indianapolis, IN; and great-neice, Ruby Rosemary Wondra of Champaign, IL.
She loved spending time at Barkley Lake with family and friends, fishing and watching wildlife. She enjoyed traveling, reading and craft shows. Her Boston Terrier, Minnie, was very special to her and they were never very far apart.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 14, 2015, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Friends may visit Friday, 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery on Monday at 10:00 AM.
