

He was a life member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ. He was an electrical contractor for over 40 years. He worked in the Evansville shipyard during WWII. George was a member of the Newburgh Masonic Lodge #174, and was a Scottish Rite 33rd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Hadi Shrine in Evansville where he sang with the Chanters for many years. He was also a member of No Ruz Grotto, and Newburgh Kiwanis. He loved to garden and work in the yard, growing and sharing roses. He was a former member of the Evansville Rose Society.
George was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Jeanette Koch; sisters, Edna Johnson and Rosa John; and son-in-law, Lee Grotevant.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Hayden); son, Dennis E. Schneider (Kazuko); daughter, Jennilou Grotevant; daughter, Kimberly Waterbury (Bill); son, Brad Conaway; grandchildren, Takako Schneider (Robert), Andrew Fernsler, April Conaway, Chris Waterbury (Jennifer), Ryan Conaway (Amber); two precious great-grandsons, Kade Schneider Spevak and Chayse Waterbury who he loved dearly; sister, Laura Johnson (Ed); and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Pastor Randy Owens, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday, 3-7 PM, and Thursday, 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. There will be a walk through by the Newburgh Masonic Lodge #174 on Wednesday at 6:30 PM.
