Jerry R. Halstead

Jerry R. Halstead, 74, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. He was born in Bloomington, IN, on March 23, 1943, to the late Claude “Bill” and Norma Halstead. He was an Indiana University graduate and retired from Atlas Van Lines in 2005. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War Era, stationed at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya and Holloman Air Force Base in Alamogordo, NM. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles, and reading. He was a small plane pilot and in later years, became active in flying ultralight airplanes. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Jack. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith A. Crayner Halstead; son, David Halstead of Brooklyn, NY; daughter, Angela Halstead (Spencer Willet) of St. Louis, MO; sister, Dianne Martin (E.R.) of Bloomington, IN; and 13 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, with entombment in St. John’s Mausoleum. Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to DAV, Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust or Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Evansville.
