Mary Florence Lindsey

She was an active member in St. John East United Church of Christ. She served on the board at the Center for Women’s Ministries. Mary graduated from Brescia College and received a Master’s Degree in Education from USI. She worked at the IUPUI School of Nursing and retired from the USI School of Nursing. Mary was a UK basketball fan and loved traveling, being with family and friends, and helping in any way she could. Being with her family was first in her life. She was a role model and inspiration to many.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Luther, Sr. and Virginia Oakley; and brothers, Luther Oakley, Jr. and Harold Wayne Oakley.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Frank of Newburgh; sons, Jeff of Nashville, TN, David (fiancée, Carrie Dobmeier) of Arlington, VA; sisters-in-law, Betty Oakley of Henderson, KY, Judy Oakley of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Steve Lindsey (Retta) of Switz City, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CST, Saturday, August 23, 2014, at St. John East United Church of Christ, 7000 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Kenneth Townsend, with burial at Olive Branch Cemetery in Hanson, KY. Friends may visit Friday, 4-7 PM CST and Saturday 10 AM CST until service time at the church.
