A veteran of the United States Army, he served as a paratrooper, a role he was deeply proud of. After his service, he dedicated many years to his career at the Newburgh Power Plant, from which he later retired. The quintessential hard worker, Michael was committed to providing for his family while also earning his bachelor’s degree. With his own hands, he built the family home and especially cherished life on the river.
He was a long-distance runner, often running in combat boots, embodying an athletic nature. He also enjoyed swimming, biking, lifting weights, and riding his motorcycles. Along with his physical pursuits, he was an excellent writer, had a wonderful sense of humor, and had a deep affection for animals.
Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Joe David Gross and sister, Faith Joellen Manczak.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice (Atwood) Gross; daughters, Deborah Faye Allbritton, Tamela Lynn Ellingwood (Mark) and Michele Rae Gross; granddaughter, Jordan Elizabeth Fordyce and great-grandchild, Natalie Elizabeth Fordyce.
A Private Family Service will be held.
