

He graduated from West Monroe High School, West Monroe LA in 1985. He received an associate degree at ITT. Gene was a loving father, grandfather, fiancé, son, brother and friend. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, helping out on the baseball field, and quoting way too many lines from movies. He shared his passion for sports and LSU with his son and nephew and his passion for music and the Goo Goo Dolls with both of his children. He loved every minute with his grandkids.
He is survived by his mother Peggy Shelton of Newburgh; fiancé, Tasha Jossa of Newburgh; children, Danielle Spindler (Blake) of Princeton and Mitchell Shelton of Evansville; Grandchildren Amelia, Declan and Eliza Splinder; Siblings Buddy Shelton (Colleen) of Jackson, MS, Greg Shelton (Teresa) of Monroe, LA, Michelle Kelley (Mike) of Wadesville and Mindy George (Art) of Newburgh; His Fiancé's children, Katie of Tampa, FL, Emme of Evansville and Andrew Jossa of Newburgh; Nieces and Nephews Jesse Shelton, Lee and Brian Shelton, Molly (Jason) McCrarey, Kyle (Sarah) and Alex (Alyssa) Kelley, Alex and Owen George; 2 great nephews and 2 great nieces.
He was preceeded in death by his dad William (Bill) Shelton.
Funeral services will be at Alexander Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023, with Pastor Rich Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Saturday.
