

He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving in Vietnam and Korea from 1967 to 1970. Nelson graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and was an electrical engineer at Alcoa and AK Steel before retiring. He was a member of Community of Christ Church where he was a high priest and volunteered at Evansville Christian Life Center. Nelson loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren.
Nelson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Fernandes; children, Debbie Ash, Michelle Jobe (Loyd) and Diana Deters (Jon); and grandchildren, Nature Hoefling (Austin), Jakob Whaley, Skylar Marshall, Peyton Deters, Isabella Jobe and Avery Deters.
A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, officiated by Pastor Richard Gregg and Elder Joan Oxley, with final resting place in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be graveside by Kapperman Post #44. Family and friends may visit Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
