Norman C. Fischer

Norman C. Fischer, 97, of Carmel, IN passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021. He was born October 24, 1923 in Tell City, IN to the late Norman G. and Adell (Meyenberg) Fischer. He grew up in Evansville, IN and graduated from F.J. Reitz High School in 1941. He served in the US Army, 38th Infantry Division from 1941-1945. Norman served in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan during WWII, where he earned the Bronze Star Combat Infantry Badge and five Asiatic-Pacific Bronze Stars. He also received the Presidential Unit Citation. Norman was a French Horn player in the 152nd Infantry Division Band. He saw action in the Philippines on the islands of Leyte and Luzon. Following the war, he attended Central Radio and Television School in Kansas City, where he earned his First Class Radio License. He went on to work as a broadcast engineer at WIKY, WGBF, and WRAY radio stations and WEHT-TV. He went on to AT & T, retiring after 30 years of service as a telecommunications technician. After retiring he moved to Newburgh, IN and later to Carmel, IN to be close to family in his later years. Norman was a member of Newburgh Presbyterian Church where he served in many roles and loved singing in the choir. He was also a member at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Toastmasters International, AT & T Telephone Pioneers and volunteered in the Boy Scout Troop 377 for many years. He loved playing golf and was a member of Fendrich Men’s Golf Club. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Margaret Kennedy at First Presbyterian Church. They raised four children, Norman C. Fischer, Jr. (Wenda) of Louisville, Richard W. Fischer (Theresa) of Easton, PA, Ronald R. Fischer (Deborah) of Carmel, IN and Barbara D. Fischer of Palm Desert, CA.; four grandchildren, Emily J. Roelandts, Elizabeth A. Fischer, Kellie N. Fischer and William K. Fischer, and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Roelandts and Oscar Roelandts. He is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Horner and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Fischer, Evelyn Peak and Edie Fischer, and brothers, Robert N. Fischer and Byron L. Fischer. A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, officiated by Pastor J. T. Silence, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park.
