Paul Gene Brinegar

He graduated from Bedford High School and earned his undergraduate degree in Industrial Education from Indiana State University, where he later received his master’s degree. Gene dedicated 39 years to Harwood Elementary/Middle School as a teacher, counselor, and supervisor of guidance. In addition, he served the State of Indiana as a senior instructor in defensive driving and as a motorcycle examiner.

Gene is survived by his daughters, Kathi Kortz (Randy) and Diana Robinson (John); favorite granddaughter, Jordan Pirsch (Brad Wilcox); great granddaughter, Violet Wilcox; significant other and best friend, Jan McBride; and one niece and one nephew.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Jean (Espy) Brinegar; half brothers, Robert Brinegar and Robert Carson; and half sister, Valeska Elrod.

A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
