

Rebecca (Becky) A. Mayes passed away October 22, 2023, at home surrounded by her family and close friends. She was born February 2, 1960, in Evansville, IN, the daughter of the late Donald A. and Suzanne (Witherspoon) Heironimus.
Becky was a 1978 graduate of Harrison High School and a 1983 graduate of Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. She was proud of her other career at Deaconess, as an ICU nurse and later as a hospice nurse with SouthernCare. Her colleagues stated, "Becky was an extra ordinary nurse who treated all patients as if they were family".
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she also helped to raise Eli Postin from infancy. Becky was preceded in death by a brother, Randall D. Heironimus.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, James E. Mayes; sons, Bradley E. and Joshua D. Mayes; stepfather, Delmer Manis; sister and caregiver, Robin Talarzyk; sister, Pamela Heironimus; stepbrother, Glen (Brenda) Manis; stepsister, Kim (Dana) Lewis; sisters-in-law, Connie Perkins, Mary Mayes, Trisha Thurman, Bonnie Winstead; brothers-in-law, Randy Mayes, Wayne Mayes; aunt, Nina (Robert) Lindauer, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is at Alexander Newburgh Chapel on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00PM with a Nurses Honor Tribute held at 6:30 PM.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Providence Baptist Church, Francisco, IN, Gibson County, officiated by Chaplin Randy Bechtel, with burial following service in Providence Cemetery.
Becky asked that Memorial Contributions be made to Special Olympics of Evansville, PO Box 962, Evansville, IN 47706.
