He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a Lieutenant from 1952-1956. Richard graduated from Memorial High School in 1947. He received his degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University in 1952. He was a life-long musician, and a founder of the Salty Dogs Jazz Band.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2004.
He is survived by his son, Michael E. Mushlitz (Lorna Wilkerson, MD) of Medford, MA; daughters, Shawn M. McHugh of Newburgh, IN, and Ann Hawken of South Lake Tahoe, CA; son, David J. Mushlitz (Ellen) of Concord, MA; grandchildren, Sara McHugh Black, Emily Mushlitz, Peter Mushlitz, Rachael Hawken, Kendra Hawken, Peter Hawken; and 3 great-grandchildren.
