

He attended Elberfeld Public School, DeVry Technical Institute, Indiana Vocational Technical College, and received certifications in multiple industrial maintenance, electrical, mining and health/safety programs. After graduating from Elberfeld High School in 1960, he married and settled in Elberfeld, where he built a house for his new family in 1965. He and his wife had two children, Roger Don, Jr. and Pamela DeAnn.
Roger had a long and successful career in the mining industry. He worked with businesses including as an electrician/engineer and Indiana Division Manager of Training with Peabody Coal Company, The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining, Co., SEI Engineering, Inc., Aluminum Company of America, Transocean Sedco Forex Offshore Deepwater Drilling, Inc., and retired from Alcoa Power Generating, Inc. He was an inventor and instrumental in the industry transition from open pit to underground mining, and developed, and patented equipment that is still in use today.
He enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, technology (building hot rod computers), and day trading. He loved playing all sorts of sports (pickle ball, golf, basketball) and games (including cards-Clabber) and was a prolific chess player, finishing 5th overall in the Tri State Chess Championship in 1973. After retiring, Roger excelled at golf and traveled throughout the country and South America. Most of all, he loved Indiana and spending time with his special friends and family.
Roger was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his children, Roger Don, Jr., Pamela DeAnn, Emily Ann and their children.
He will be laid to rest at Barnetts Chapel Cemetery.
