William “Bill” E. Barnett, Jr., 85, of Newburgh, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born July 8, 1939 in Krotz Springs, LA to the late William and Mabel (Williams) Barnett.
He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church and was employed as an accountant with Evansville Rescue Mission. Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing pool and going to the Fall Festival. In his younger years he played a lot of basketball and liked boating with his brothers. He was an avid Castle Knights fan. Nothing brought him greater joy than watching his great nephews sports and marching band events. He attended every game, practice, and performance - and was usually the first one there.
If you knew Billy, you knew his greatest trait was his generosity. When he built his home in Newburgh, he designed it so his parents could live with him, which they did until their passing. As his family would attest, one of our favorite nights of the year was Christmas Eve at his house.
All Billy did was give his time and resources, but mainly his love.
Billy's favorite title was "Uncle Bully". He wore that proudly.
Everyone needs an Uncle Bully in their life - and if you knew him, you did.
Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Barnett and Dwight Barnett.
He is survived by niece, Karen Barnett Becher of Newburgh; nephew, Jim Barnett (Heidi) of Newburgh; niece, Jessica Campbell (Scott) of Indianapolis; nephew, Damon Barnett (Lindsay) of Newburgh and great nieces and nephews, Luke Becher, Kennan Barnett (Sydney), Cole Barnett (Annie), and Emory and Asher Campbell; great-great nieces, Blakely and Callie Barnett, and great nephews, Nash and Gray Barnett, sisters-in-law, Debby Barnett of Evansville, and BJ Beadle of Newburgh.
The family would like to thank the staff of Newburgh Healthcare for their love and kind attention to Billy.
