Christ Peter Ellis passed away on Sunday, November 19th, 2023 at 82 years old. He is survived by his beloved sons: Peter (Jennifer) Ellis, Nicholas Ellis, Theodore (Danielle) Ellis and John (Kristy) Ellis; cherished grandchildren: Mary, Maria, Molly, Evelyn, Theodore and Betty; and dear siblings: John and Nicholas. “Uncle Chris” is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews (both blood and extended), cousins and dear friends.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Ellis (Pappas); his namesake grandson, Chris Ellis, and amazing parents: Peter and Sophia Ellis.
Our Dad Chris (as he was known to everyone) was an exceptionally kind, patient and generous man who loved his family fiercely and worked hard to support them without fail.
Chris excelled from his early days, competing as a star wrestler and football player at Morgan Park Military Academy, then attending the University of Oklahoma and Roosevelt College in Chicago. He applied that same drive to his professional life, creating and running several different retail businesses across his more than 30-year career, never backing away from a challenge or resigning in the face of a defeat. His professional pride and joy was the chain of Buy the Weigh candy stores, which flourished for decades.
His personal pride and joy was his family. After meeting his wife, our beloved mother Betty, they married and raised us in Burbank, Oak Lawn, and Palos Park. Although he worked hard at providing for his family, he was also the boss which meant he was home every day at 6pm without exception to enjoy dinner with us, provide words of advice and encouragement, and to mentor us by example on how to be good men. Chris was a devoted father and a husband to our mother for 50 years until her passing in 2019.
His "retirement" was in name only, as he turned his part-time passion for buying, restoring and selling collector cars into a full-time job. He loved watching the Bears and the Bulls, even in the down years, and thought baseball was boring. Over the years he gained three adoring daughters-in-law and eventually seven grandchildren who idolized their Papou. While his family had grown and continued to be his source of happiness, he missed our Mom every single day. Our hearts are broken for our loss, but we know he has now found her on the other side.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Chris that will take place on Sunday, November 26th, 2023 from 3 - 7 P.M. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois. Trisagion service at 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 27th, 2023, 11 A.M. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 10301 Kolmar Avenue, Oak Lawn, Illinois with visitation at church from 10 A.M. until the time of service. Interment Fairmount Willow Hills Cemetery in Willow Springs, Illinois.
