Born on October 30, 1977, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, Courtenay was one of five siblings who grew up close despite the distance in their ages. Her father was adored by family and friends, and Courtenay looked up to him with great love and respect. Courtenay graduated from Mother McAuley High School in 1995, after which she attended the University of Iowa. Reading was Courtenay’s great escape; she always had a stack of books nearby. After briefly studying medicine, Courtenay left school early to become a mother and devoted herself to raising Ashleigh and Andrew Hughes.
Courtenay put people at ease. She was quick to laugh and make others laugh; she could be the life of the party and a wise-cracking conversationalist. Once you were a friend of Courtenay’s, you knew she had your back. She wanted the best for her loved ones and supported them with strength and conviction.
While Courtenay dealt with many personal battles in her too-short life, she loved her family fiercely, took pride in being a Lawler, and the light of her life will live on with all who knew her, especially in her beautiful children of whom she was the proudest. She would want loved ones to remember the embrace of good times and the enduring memories of love, joy, and laughter together.
Courtenay is predeceased by her father, Dr. Thomas Lawler.
She is survived by her mother, Petra Lawler; daughter, Ashleigh Hughes; son, Andrew Hughes; siblings, Todd (Mignon) Fulton, Missy (Wendy Cordier) Lawler, Kim (Gary Fullett) Fulton, and Tom (Dawn) Lawler.
Visitation will be from 3-8PM on Friday, January 20, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd, Oak Lawn. Funeral Service will begin at 10 AM on Saturday, January 21, also at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
