Eulogy for Aunt Eily

Aunt Eily was a treasure and a delightful woman to have known. Her good nature and laughter were infectious, as was her wonderful outlook on life. I have christened that outlook as the “Eily Cup of Life Philosophy”.

Eily’s Cup of Life was never empty. It was always at least half-full because she always found ways to fill it, even in the worst of times. And in good times, it would overflow to the benefit of family and friends.

 Let that philosophy be your fond memory of her. When you are feeling low, lift up your own Cup of Life and ask Eily for a refill. It will make you feel better.

 Aunt Eily was my Mom’s (Peg Hartnett) younger sister and best friend from their early days in Cork, Ireland to the end of their lives in Chicagoland.  Now they are together again as stars in the universe.

May they shine their light upon us when we are in need.
I miss them. I miss them. I miss them.

Eily was small in stature but hugh in personality. Her good humour and smiling face is what I remember. How she loved to sing and dance on nights out "at home" in Cork. A truly lovely woman, you were blessed to have her as a Mother. She will be sorely missed. Deirdre

My heartfelt condolences to all the Gaal family. I have many memories of Eily. She loved to come back to Cork to be with her sisters and family here. And she did love shopping while she was  "home". Her suitcases were always full to the brim going back. She was thoughtful and generous and always extended an invitation to everyone to "come over" (to Chicago). And she meant it. I turned up on her doorstep in 1981 and she made me feel so welcome. I have great memories of that trip and the kindness  Eily and Greg showed to me. What fond memories we all have of your mom! Eily was a beautiful lady with such a happy-go-lucky personality. She was always laughing and never met anyone who could talk as much( especially when the 3 Cork-friends 
  got together for their cup of tea)! 
Although we didn't see her often in later years memories of the Regan-Gaal picnics will forever be with us all.  Sending our sincere condolences to you all at this sad time.
