Jim was born on June 7th, 1939, to Patrick and Margaret (Shinners) Aldworth in Chicago IL. He was a proud Leo High School graduate (Class of 1957) and supported the Leo Lions until the end. He went to work for Standard Oil of Indiana, which later became Amoco Oil, and worked for them for 37 years. Jim earned his Bachelor of Science in Commerce with high honors from DePaul University and further secured his Master of Business Administration, all while being a caring father and husband, and climbing the corporate ladder with several promotions within the financial arm of Amoco Oil.
Jim had a brilliant mind and was a member of Mensa. He was a great card player and loved Gin Rummy, Hearts, “31” and Bridge – and he would remember every card discarded! Jim loved Jeopardy and never missed a trivia tournament aboard the cruise ships, which he dominated. Jim was also a world traveler and instilled this love in his children’s hearts.
People knew him by his warm smile and gentle demeanor - unless you met him on a volleyball court! His love for volleyball led him to start the Men’s Volleyball Club at Mother McAuley High School where he played every Monday night for 28 years. Jim was also an avid college basketball fan, cheering on the Blue Demons for 50+ years. He was the originator of our NCAA Men's Basketball March Madness Pool which is still in full swing today. He is probably picking the DePaul Blue Demons to win it all!
Jim is survived by his loving and devoted family: former wife Marilynn (Sullivan) Morrisroe of Orland Park, IL; his daughter Kathy McKenzie of IL; daughter Karen and husband Steve May of San Diego, CA; Patricia and husband Rich Stevens of Mokena, IL; son James Aldworth of Chicago, IL; and son Robert Aldworth and his wife Sara of Grand Rapids, MI.
Jim's heart was most full when he was surrounded by the joy, love, and laughter of his nine grandchildren: Jeff McDonald; Melanie McDonald; Katie May; Megan Stevens; Kevin Stevens; Sonya Aldworth-Yang; Nora Aldworth; Greta Aldworth and Liam Aldworth. Jim is also survived by his brothers: Rev. Dr. Thomas Aldworth of Oak Brook, IL and Jack (wife Sue) Aldworth of Huntley, IL.; his nephews and his niece; and long-time friend Helen Martino of Palatine, IL.
Jim will be remembered for his compassion, strength, stubbornness and love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Jim that will be held on Thursday, February 29th, 2024 at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home at 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held on Friday, March 1st, 2024 at Our Lady of The Ridge Catholic Church, 10811 Ridgeland Avenue, Chicago Ridge, Illinois at 11:00 a.m. with procession after to St. Mary's Cemetery, 87th Street and South Hamlin Avenue, Evergreen Park, Illinois.
