Jim brightened so many of my days at ALA.  Amid all the stiff-lipped seriousness of official business, there was earthy, compassionate, smart and reliable Jim, helping to keep things running and the work environment pleasurable. We loved to kid around and I'll remember him always. 

To my friend Jim. It is with great sorrow that I learned of your passing.  Although we only got to work together for a short time, it was a true pleasure. You welcomed me into your crew with arms wide open and with a smile as broad as the ocean. Your charming southern draw was very magnetic and hard to resist. You will be missed and my prayers and heartfelt thoughts go out to you and your family.

I have very fond memories of working with Jim during his years at ALA! Jim had a great sense of humor and lots of  wonderful stories about West Virginia where I believe he grew up and where my wife attended college (WVU). My condolences to all Jim's family. God Bless you Jim!--Chris Anderson

Condolences and prayers of comfort to Jim’s family. I do remember our wonderful daily conversations   What a wonderful man and dear friend. He was kind and giving to all he worked with. So sorry to hear about Jim. He was a nice, nice man who put up with all our complaints & demands with good humor. Condolences to his family. 

My favorite memory was Jim at the ALA Christmas parties - the after party at the bar. 

He was a very generous and friendly co-worker and made ALA special.



I hope the family doesn't mind my sharing this silly photo. It's been hanging in my office for years. There's Jim (and his bright smile) on the far right -- Always ready to help out, even on projects "outside the box." His warm, kind, fun spirit showing here, dressed as Gomez Addams with the rest of the Addams Family! <3 

My sincere condolences to the McClellan family. I worked with Jim for many years at the American Library Association. He was a good man -- always ready to help with a friendly smile and good humor.

Jim helped make my days of  working at the American Library Association pleasant.
He was kind and patient even while being pulled in different directions by fellow staff members that wanted their situations resolved first.
  He treated everyone the same. There were no big I(s) or little  you(s).
When he retired I was sad because I knew I would miss his smiles, hellos and our conversations.
I pray the family feels the comfort that only God can give during this time of bereavement.
