At the service I remembered 47 or 48 years ago when I was introduced to Joe and my husband Bruce by a girlfriend of mine.  Bruce had told me they were called the odd couple because they were X brother in laws living together.  For many beautiful years we hung out and then life got in the way.  So SAD but so enthralling was the memorial service.  Joe your youngest son is an amazing speaker, extremely articulate, two of your grandchildren speaking of how you stepped up to the plate after their father was taken from us way to young.  The story of life in the Stull house felt like we were there.  Cyndi your choice of the end of service song was amazingly uplifting.  What a beautiful memorial a wonderful tribute to your life and the legacy that lives on because of you our friend.

I knew Joe even before I ever KNEW Joe.  He was one of the Stull boys over on a 108th and St. Louis.  In my Mom’s vernacular, they were “roughnecks.”  Not bad, just bad assess.  They played hard and worked hard.  They were good ball players.  Whatever the size or shape of the ball, they were good at it. Golf, baseball, pool.  Especially Joe.  In Mt. Greenwood, when we were growing up, not much else seemed to matter.  Straight “A’s” didn’t get you much, but home runs made you a king in the neighborhood.  Not soon after those earlier days I started hanging around with Joe.  We had an instant connection, and I knew right then that Joe and I would be best friends forever.  We did everything together, road trips, golf trips, trips to McNally’s. Nobody had to teach Joe how to have fun or how to BE a friend.  Joe never said no to anybody that asked for help.  He was generous with his time. One of the things I remember most about Joe though is the connection he had with little kids. My grand kids loved Jo Jo.  I think it was because he gave them his undivided attention, and talked WITH them not to them.  He loved kids and they loved him back…And I loved him.  So so long my friend.  Life is gonna be a little sadder without you… If he was still around, I think he would have this advice.  Grieve is you must, but not for too long. There is a lot of life to be lived.

We are going to miss seeing uncle Jo Jo and his warm, sincere smile. Tough, kind, genuine, and incredibly caring....so much so that the kids loved him like family. They loved getting uncle Jo Jo's little random candy envelopes he would leave in the mailbox on random occasions. We will miss our great times with him at the pink house, on the best porch on the south side, family Christmas and, of course, playing SOFT DOT. Get-togethers will never be the same without you Joe. RIP, we love you so.

So many great memories I was blessed to share with Joe. He was the best golfer most of the time, and enjoyed the time spent on courses and the 19th hole with him. 
Joe was a charismatic guy. He was a man’s man. I first got to know him  when I was introduced to the Mount Greenwood /Beverly guys by my life long friend Bob Schrimple in the early 70’s .  I got to know him  more on fishing trips to Wisconsin and the UP.  It was clear from the beginning that Joe was loved and respected by all. I knew from the very beginning that Joe and I would always be buddies.
I cherish the times we spent on golf trips and time at Dewey Lake. We shared so many laughs together.  We also shared the ups and downs that life presents us all.
I love you buddy and thank you for all friendship we shared.

We were so sorry to hear of Joe’s passing.  Time flies by so quickly, it seems like such a short time ago we were all meeting up at the park for Mother’s Day and family reunions.  Hoping you who were closest to him find joy in remembering his life.  Blessings and love to you.
