John J. Melvin

John J. Melvin, better known as "Papa" to many, was born August 6, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois and passed away on June 24th, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doreen Melvin, brothers, Dennis and Arthur Melvin Jr., and sister, Linda Smicklas, mother, Madlyn Rose McNealy, and father, Arthur Cornelius Melvin. He is survived by siblings: brother, William 'Billy' Melvin, sisters, Christine 'Chris' Hansen, and Debbie Povlock. He also leaves behind children: son, Jason Melvin and daughter, Jennifer Melvin; including grandchildren: granddaughter, Alicia Melvin, grandsons, Nathyn, Jay and Greyson Melvin.

John was an energetic, loving, hardworking and dependable man. He loved his family, friends and dogs. He spent thirty years working for Northstar Aerospace, where he loved working with his friends and family. In John's free time, he enjoyed playing golf with his good friends and brother at Joe Louis Golf Course, in Riverdale, Illinois, every Sunday.

He was loved by many and will be greatly missed...Rest in heaven.

Friends and family will gather for a visitation for John that will be held from 3 - 8 PM on Friday, June 30th, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn, Illinois where a prayer service will take place at 6 PM. Interment private.
