Larry attended his grammar school years at St. Theodore Elementary School while living at 63rd and Hermitage. It was here, at the age of 13 that he would meet Kathryn Repole, his future wife of 55 years.
After graduating from Lindblom High School, he and Kathryn were married at St. Bernadette Church on July 16, 1963. Larry and Kathy raised their 3 children in St. Bernadette Parish in Evergreen Park. They were part of the St. Bernadette Bowling League for many years. They also were involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Troops 3656 and 656, respectively. Larry was a past Commodore of the Calumet Yacht Club and the family was very involved in boating and fishing for many years.
Larry was a business owner, and following his father-in-law’s death in 1978, he and Kathryn took over the management and operations of Rosario’s Italian Foods, the business Kathy’s parents had started on the kitchen table of their home. Larry led the business successfully for many years, often working in the business every day but Tuesdays. For many years, Larry and Kathy attended the 7:00 AM mass every Sunday and then would head off to work.
Larry supported and enjoyed spending time with his family: Larry Jr., Mary Kay, and Robert. Grandkids came to love boating and fishing with Grandpa; Emily, Zachary, Erin, and Patrick knew Grandpa’s support and love from infancy to adulthood. His youngest grandchildren included Ben, Rosario (Roy) and Sophia, who will miss their Grandpa dearly.
Beloved father to Lawrence P. (Maggie Zellers) Salus, Jr., Mary Kay (Christopher) Nielsen, and Robert R. (Cindy) Salus; Cherished grandfather to Zachary, Benjamin, Emily Kathryn, Erin Margaret, Patrick (Kayla), Rosario “Roy”, and Sophia; Great grandfather to William Patrick Nielsen. Cousin and friend to many.
