Matt was a classmate of mine at St. Bede the Venerable. I last
spoke with him in the early nineties. I only now have learned of his passing as I was looking him up on the internet. I remember Matt as a kind, loving, and caring person with a great sense of humor. Sadly, I will have to wait until the next life to catch up with him again.


I just want to say how shocked I am of learning of the passing of Matthew . The last time I saw him was around 2003 . 
He was a magnetic person . Full of charm and mischief , always smiling and looking for adventure . I can't believe he is gone .
I only knew him for a brief period but he left such an impression on me that , I looked him up on the internet today , 2020 , from Dublin , Ireland . ( I used to live in Chicago) only to find out about his passing .  I feel that  it was a  privilege to  have known him . 
You must be so proud of him . May he rest in peace .

I can't believe you are gone.  The shock of it still trembles me.  I think about you 100+ times a day and your smile and sarcastic humor is embedded in my brain.  Everytime it storms I think of you starring out the wind in amazement, and 2011 has been a hell of a year for them.  I love you so much and look forward to being with you again someday!

Matt, I cant believe a year has gone by.  In some ways it seems like forever since I have seen you or talked to you, but then the memory of July 2nd seems like yesterday.  I miss you and I wish you where here with us, Kathy and Sean.  Love, your sister, Maureen

I just heard the terrible news of Matt's passing.  We were neighbors/friends from Kilbourn and this is quite a shock to our family.  Matt was such a great guy.  Our thoughts are prayers go out to the Kennedy clan and to his wife and son.

I cant believe that I am writing this because it means you are really gone.  Matt, I will miss you forever.  I have soooo many memories of you.  I remember following you around the house all the time thinking of things to do together.  I remember driving to NIU to pick you up and being so excited that you were coming home for the weekend.  I remember going to NIU to visit you and feeling so old and cool because you were just as happy to have your little sister there with you.  I took over your room when you were gone (and got evicted when you came back).  We had so many friends together, you bought me fish, and taught me to ride my bike. We spent soo many nights together on the Mills' porch, sometimes without them, just you and me. You always made me feel good when we were together. I will miss you everyday.  I will cry, but I will also laugh because that is what we did.  Good bye my brother and my friend until we meet again. xoxox

 It was so wonderful to see the many people offering their condolences last night at Matthew's wake. When stories were shared it was so inspiring to know that Matthew was a big part of so many people's lives. Matthew was like a brother to me and I have so many memories from NIU: making me laugh, debating topics on the news, discussing weather patterns, trying to beat him at Jeopardy answers (and failing miserably to him!), playing pranks on Maureen and being in awe of his knowledge of history and trivia. I am so happy he fell in love with Kathy and had Sean to make his life complete. I hope knowing he will be watching over you will bring you comfort. And, I hope your great memories (Mr. & Mrs. Kennedy, Karen, Patty Ann, Fenn, Maureen, Mary and Annie) will bring you peace during this difficult time.He will be missed so much!

To the Kennedy family, I just wanted you to know that you have been in my thoughts since I heard of the loss of your Matt.  Karen and Virg...my heart goes out to all of you!  I didn't know Matt, but I'm sure he was a great guy, he was part of you.

My college experience wouldn't have been what it was without knowing Matt. He was always so full of life and ready for a good time. I am sitting here shaking my head smiling remembering some of the crazy stuff we did together and the laughs we shared! Although I've reconnected with Maureen recently, I only wish I could have reconnected with Matt and met his beautiful little family. I know God has a plan for us all; it's just too bad Matt left us so soon.

Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so very sorry for your loss. May the wonderful moments that you have made together someday give you peace and comfort.

I dont know what to say except that i am heartbroken and lost without my only brother. I will miss you dearly and never forgot the great times we had together. We had so many laughs that i could never mention them all. I truly enjoyed are times at Northern Illinois even though you cost me a fortune but a loss of a little money could never replace those times. I will also never forget are rides together, you, Tommy Friel and myself we had a million laughs. All the times out at the bars or just laying upstairs in our beds laughing about nothing will never be forgotten. Ill never watch jeopardy again without thinking about you. I promise you I will watch over Kathy and Sean forever. I wiss miss you deeeply but I know you will be watching down on all of us. God took you to soon but I know he had a plan for you. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Kennedy Family during this difficult time.  I grew up across the street from Matt and his family with so many fond memories....I was just looking at pictures not too long ago of Matt and Maureen at my birthday party and pictures in my backyard swimming in our 2 ft poot -- Matt always had the biggest smile on his face!  I remember going down to the Donegan's garage to hold "meetings" for our Kolmar Kids Club, block parties and just hanging out on our front porches watching T.V., tossing the softball or frisbee around....Matt was always there.  My deepest condolences and continued prayers to his wife, Kathy and his son, Sean.  God Bless all of you and may you find strength in the many good memories you have with Matt.

I was Matt's college roommate at NIU.  We had shared a lot of good times and he will be missed.  We had a board of quotes that we had compiled from us or movies and anything that had made us laugh.  A few that I remeber that I would like to share..."You have not made love until you have made love on the gondola" "I have come to chew bubble gum and kick some butt and right now I am out of bubble gum"  "Freeze police NO freeze police also"  "Jaros get out of that Bed"  "The first layer of lettuce is evil"  My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the Kennedy family.

Matt, my college memories will always have you in them.  You always had that great laugh that was so contagious, no matter what was going on, you would start that laugh and no one could resist laughing along with you!
To Kathy, we never met, but I hope you know you are in my prayers and so is your little boy. The world sure lost a great man way too soon! Maureen

What can I say!  I am heartbroken.  You are truly going to be missed. When I think of Matt I think Archie comic books, Spaghettios, Liver Sausage, paper routes, Guiness book of World Records, Halloween Trick or Treating, Fireworks, and the Simpsons.  While I am sad I can not share these with you any longer, I promise to share them with Sean. He was truly the apple of your eye.  I look forwar to watching him grow and telling him how wonderful you are.

Matt I have known you for 30 years we are all very sad, but with your great lovng family we will try to get through this difficult time. I have many memories of you growing up, but  would like to share two of them. The first one was when you stayed at our house to watch the dogs you had a party and Karen and I come home knowing you had a party but the house was still standing. You came by the day we came home and said I left 3 or 4 beers in your fridge and you asked can if I get those beers for you cause you were going to a party I said to Karen I can't believe he would come over for 3 or 4 beers, but you were at that age and you didn't seem to even think anything of it,but very funny at the time. Also I think you had broken your ankle and Fen and I did you paper route for a week and we got yelled at from several of your customers because the papers were late, then we had to collect the money for the papers and got yelled at more but Fen and I would just laugh because we couldn't believe how much your customers loved you. Also I don't think Fen ever paid me. Matt we all loved you and we will miss you very much. We will all watch out for Kathy and Sean. Love John

Kathy, you are like one of our own daughters and we love you so much. You are in our hearts and prayers always.

Matthew, you were one of my oldest and dearest friends and I will cherish all of the hysterically  funny moments we shared through grammar school, high school, college and beyond.  I will miss your quick wit, contagious laugh, and bright smile. It seems like it was only a few years ago that you, Maureen and I would walk up to Scottsdale Shopping Center to buy an Archie comic book at Walgreens and have shakes at Jerome's Ice Cream. Some of my memorable Matthew stories include:
•  Matt accidentally knocking Maureen's ice cream shake out of her hands and it spills all of her clothes and flies across the floor, and then he blames her for standing behind him.
•  Matt's 4th of July fireworks shows that always included a huge Fountain firework for its grand finale.
•  Matt organizing last minute parties while Mrs. K was grocery shopping. 
•  Matt so happy dancing at his wedding with Kathy and proudly holding Sean at a graduation party. 
You have left all of us too soon and I pray that you are at peace in heaven. My heart goes out to Kathy, Sean, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy, Maureen and the entire Kennedy family, who for so many years have welcomed me into their family.
