I met Bob in 2007 when we moved next door. To say that he was a good neighbor would be an understatement, he was a great friend.  A week didn’t go by where I didn’t call him from work asking him if he could “check to see if I turned the iron off”, “check to see if I locked the door”, or “did I unplug my curling iron”.   I always got a “sure Con, I’ll go take a look”.   
He was one of the best men I’ve ever met. The love that he had for his family was palpable and my world is just so much sadder knowing that Bob isn’t on this planet any more.   I will truly miss him, but I am positive he’s in Heaven with long lost family and friends and looking down on all of us smiling. While his life wasn’t always easy, it was a good life filled with tons of love and laughter.  I’ll miss ya buddy.

Miss my brother already.  He was a great dad, father and brother.

Oh Papa, I could write a million books on all the memories we’ve created and all the things you have taught me. You were always there when others weren’t and you did everything you possibly could for me and more. I wish there was an actual recorded video of the cooking “shows” me, you,  and grandma would make when I was little! Or your “Howie's Huge Breakfast” you would make whenever we slept over or on vacation. Most Importantly, I will never forget the loyalty you had to your family. You would do anything for any of us- and we will always do the same for you.

Memories!  We have a boatload of great memories.  Wisconsin Dells, Disney World, Fishing trips, B&B weekends, Santa Claus and more—Bob's laugh, smile, and exclamations (I won't print those.) What a life!  Thanks, Bob, for great memories!  
It's hard to understand why Bob is taken from us but find comfort in knowing Lorry, Kelly, Theresa, and family, you were a special part of a well-lived life.

Bob was my father-in-law for over 20 years. He was always easy to talk to and quick with a joke.  He was great company and always had a good story to tell. Whenever we needed help with our house or with the girls,  Bob never hesitated, and I loved lending a hand to him as well. He was an amazing father and Papa and we’ll all miss him dearly.

I will miss Uncle Bob for the one of a kind heroic person he was, ever since we met him as little kids on 64th & Fairfield.  

You never left his presence without feeling better , he always met you where you were no matter your mood or if he was experiencing misfortune.  This generosity of spirit was a bespoke quality that is purely Heaven-sent.  We are so very lucky to have been given the beautiful gift of God that Uncle Bob was.

My heart is outstretched with compassion to everyone he touched, especially the family and dear friends.

How many laughs did we have! Too many to count. Like the little puppet that kept showing up at every antique store. Or you correcting me when I told the store owner you were my father. You lit up the room when you arrived at any family gathering. Your one liners like Christmas Turkey always made everyone laugh. Bob, you came into the Family as a brother-in-law, but you were always a brother. Your friend and brother, Jim.

Uncle Bob, you were everything  an Uncle could be and more. You were such an inspiration to me. I will miss you so much.

You are the best Papa anyone could’ve ever asked for. Always loved by everyone and you will never be forgotten.

Thank you for being our Papa and for giving us so many good times that turned into loving memories, which we can cherish forever. I will always remember weekend sleepovers and dinners at Cracker Barrel. Thank you for always taking us antiquing, day trips to Lake Geneva, and surprising us with ice cream sundae’s. Thank you for teaching me so much, for helping me when I needed it, for supporting us and being such an amazing Papa. I will miss listening to you tell me all about your favorite cars. I will miss listening to 60’s music in the car with you and Grandma on antiquing trips, and I’ll especially miss hearing your laugh. I love you Papa.

You were more than a great brother in law, you were a true brother and a real friend to Jack and I.   You will be missed very much, but will remain in your hearts and prayers forever.

Where do I begin?  I knew Bob longer than anyone else - he was my wonderful brother!  From the time we were little kids, then grammar school, then (the same high  school -graduating the same year), then adulthood - we were very close.  He always had my back and I always had his.  The picture is fuzzy because it's now pasted on a collage, but this is Bob when he was 16.  I had to iron at least a dozen of his shirts each week so he would look good in his black leather jacket - and look at that black curly hair!

I loved Bob for a million reasons - just the best guy ever!!  He loved life, and life loved him back with so many other people.  He brought happiness to everyone who knew him.

One of my favorite stories was when Bob came to my mom's house on Christmas Eve dressed as Santa Claus.  Two of my young children were there and Bob wanted to surprise them - looking like Santa.  He rang the bell and Brian (age 5 then), opened the door saying, "Hi Uncle Bob!"  Bob was speechless and to this day, we still laugh about it.  

God took one of the best and I know he's waiting for me and others to join him whenever God will allow it.  I love you and miss you Bob!

Uncle Bob, it has been an honor to be your niece. Thank you so much for being a positive role model throughout my life, doing your best to fill in where my Father was lacking. Thank you for always fixing our furnace and car and anything else that would break at what seemed to be the worst possible time to break. Theresa said it best, you made everything better and I am so sad that you're gone from this life but so grateful you are resting with God and no longer in pain or confused. I'll always remember you and the amazing person you were. Your smile and laughter will stay with me always. I will always remember our conversations about cars, the time you picked me up in high school and took me for a ride in the classic car you had fully restored and finding me my very first car and a few cars after that. Our conversations about everything and nothing, playing pictionary and laughing so hard my stomach hurt. How you and Aunt Lorry always welcomed me for holiday dinners. The way your eyes lit up when you laughed or were about to eat some sweets. I'll miss running into you in Jewel and talking about what we were cooking and exchanging recipe tips. Most of all I'll miss your hugs, the way you would say "hey Al" and just the funny, loving, selfless man you were. Until we meet again. Love always

You made everything better. You had the best sense of humor, and were always such a good sport. You gave all of us unconditional love and full support always. You never complained once and fought till the very end. Love you and I’ll miss you always. Rest In Peace dad. ❤️

Our families have been neighbors for a very long time.

There are so many stories to tell which would overload this website.  

All I wish to say is God Bless Mr Ahrens (Bob), may he rest in peace, h e was very  good to my mom in the beginning/ending  stages of her illness and I will never forgot that.   

He was a very kind and generous man.  He loved his family with all his heart.  He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors.

Lorry, Kelly, Theresa, and all the  grandchildren, we are so deeply sorry for your loss. Bob was such a wonderful funny man and i am so blessed to have known him.
