Dear Pat, Brian, Wayne, Diane, Kathy and Bill,

We were crushed to hear the news about Tom's passing, and sincerely regret we could not attend the funeral.

Our friendship began in 1958, 52 years ago, and has remained to be very close and wonderful throughout the years.  Even though we moved to Colorado in 1973, it was never a break in our friendship.  We have visited each other since, both of us making trips back and forth between Colorado and Chicago, and Arizona and Chicago.  We have so many wonderful memories, it will help us endure this loss.  We feel privileged to have been a part of his and your lives.

I was a brand new young detective assigned to the Gang Crimes Investigation Division back in the mid 70's when a newly assigned Sgt. to that unit walked in and said, "you don't have a partner, you'll ride with me."  And that was that and Wayne and I rode together many a tour from that point on even into the 90's in 025 when he was a Lt. and I was a Sgt.  A great partner who taught me how to be the real police.  Nobody was more dedicated to serving and protecting than Wayne.  He was a tireless champion of the underdog.  He was a great partner, a great supervisor, but most of all, one of the best friends I've ever had.  I'll miss you Wayne, but I've got a treasure trove of phenomenal memories of good police work and good times.  Thanks for all of that and rest in peace.  Bob Johnson

Pat, please except our condolences. Donna and I just learned of Wayne's passing. From the first time I ever met Wayne at the ATF undercover school in Glynco Georgia to the FBINAA retrainers, to the baseball games at the White Sox he was always a pleasure to be with. He will be truly missed. I'm glad to be able to say he and you are our friends. God Bless you.

Pat, I dearly mourn Wayne's passing.  I am so sorry that I couldn't make it there from Florida.  I had great times going to the FBI Academy meetings at Great Lakes with him, wrestling with him in the lake (he threw me around like a doll), shooting at the range with him , working at Sox Park with him and Ricky Schott.  Lots of great memories.  A husband, father and co-worker anyone would be proud to have and to know.   Take care.

my thoughts and prayers go out to wayne and his family and this time of sadness , i`m sure he`s in a better place and at peace. i knew wayne as a fellow police officer and he always wore his uniform with pride and was a great leader and someone you could look up to. he will be missed .i remember playing basketball with him at the police academy back in the 80`s and he always put his all into everything he did.  ed richardson

Pat- Larry and I will be unable to attend the services on Monday, but want you to know that we are thinking of you and that you are in our prayers.  I will never forget how you and Wayne took me under your wing at that very first FBINAA convention that I atteneded when I knew NO ONE!  You made me feel like a part of this very big "family" of NA officers.  You were both always so fun and full of life, and we had some great times over the years.  May God bless you and your family and help to heal your hearts.

It breaks my heart to hear of Wayne's passing.  I was lucky enough to have him as my Tactical Lieutenant back in 025.  He was a good and careing man who would do whatever he could to help a fellow officer.  Guys like Wayne are hard to find nowadays, and he will be sorely missed.  I met my father-in-law 22 years ago and what a wonderful man. I watch how my husband Bill looked up to him throughout the years.  He was a gentle and kindhearted man and as we had our children I  watched him  play, wrestle and love each one of them so much.  Seeing all the wonderful qualities be passed from him to my husband, I could only ask for my children to grow up be such great men. I will never forget his words when he would say to me " Hi Honey, you look so pretty". He will always have a special place in my heart!!  I am so honored to have known him and most of all call him Dad.

   I'm so sorry to hear of Wayne passing away.  He was my godfather and I always looked up to "big" Wayne.  He was a great friend to my Dad and always have fond memories of him.  He commanded respect from everyone who knew him.  He loved children and had a kind heart that was evident at any family gathering.  He always had great stories of his life on the force and served for the safety of the city for over 40 years.  What a blessing he was to family, friends, fellow cops, and the city of Chicago. I would not have what I have today if it were not for Wayne.  He has guided my career in Law Enforcement when I graduated college from SXU. My family and I are grateful for what he has done for us. We will truly miss him.

Wayne was a Policeman's Policeman. Dedicated and true to his oath. A true gentleman and leader of men. I worked with Wayne in several units from 1971 through 1998. He always was a hard charger who would volunteer himself and his command for every tough assignment. Never failing and never complaining. A man who commanded respect and earned this respect.

When I first met Mr. Thompson, I was introduce to him by his son Wayne Jr.. He said hello and smiled a kind smile. So polite and very sweet, and handsome not to say the least. His kind words and smile did not stop suddently, it expanded out in his family. Just like Mr. Thompson, they showed their generosity to me, and my son as they opened up their hearts and their home. I do remembered on Holidays Mr. Thompson would wrestle with my son and his grandchildren on the basement floor. This was a typical scene when he was around the kiddies. The Children's laughter would fill the space as if there were no one else left in the human race.  Yes, i would never forget how  he made them laugh, and how he served his purpose well, just as he did in his life time to all he encountered as a person, an officer, and a gentlemen. We will miss you Mr. Thompson. Rest in Peace.

An OFFICER and a true GENTLEMAN. Meticulous, is the one word that would describe Wayne Thompson. Pat, may you and the family find comfort in knowing that Wayne has made a great impact on me and many other officers.
