Alice A. Grijalva, 91 CARLSBAD -- Alice Grijalva passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010. She was born May 10, 1919 in Brawley, Calif., daughter of Tomas and Maria Alvarado. Alice was a homemaker and cook at Carlsbad by the Sea for 50 years. She enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, and her many friends and family. She was loving, generous, humorous, outgoing, and extremely independent. Alice was preceded in death in 1962 by her husband of 21 years, Santiago Grijalva. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Frank) Mortensen; and son, Fidel (Anita) Grijalva; grandchildren, Pico, Jimmy, Kayboy, Kayla, Suzette, Nicole, Susan, and Pamela; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Lupe (Gilbert) Herrera, and Jeannie Grijalva; sister-in law, Josephina Grijalva; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a viewing held at 4 p.m., with Rosary recited at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, September 14, at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad. Memorial donations may be made to Seasons Hospice.
