Barbara Anne Wyatt, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, precious friend, and adopted mom to many, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, July 6, 2015. Barbara (Mom) Wyatt was a beautiful woman who reflected grace, kindness, joy, and faith to all who knew her. She was known for her sweet smile and loving heart. She won the final war with cancer as she went home to be with Jesus, and now her pain is over - a new life has begun. Although she will be deeply missed, her family is thankful that her passing was quick and peaceful. Her Memorial Service was held on July 11, 2015 at New Community Church of Vista. Her remains have been laid to rest at Eternal Hills Cemetery in the Rose Memorial Garden Ossuary.
Barbara Anne Wyatt was born on May 9, 1928 in Hawthorne, California. For the majority of her life Barbara was a resident of California, as well as a long time member of the New Community Church of Vista. In her early years Barbara worked at a soda shop, boarding house, department store, and later was a full time mother of three children: John, Ginnie, and Mary Lou. As the children grew older, Barbara worked as a real estate agent, loan officer in a bank, and in other businesses as a secretary. Over Barbara Wyatt’s lifetime, there have been 15 Presidents of the United States. When she was born in 1928, Calvin Coolidge was President. She lived through World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. She was married to John Wyatt, who served his country in the US Marines through several wars. Barbara understood well the struggles and challenges of a military spouse.
Barbara loved her family and loved times of reunion and visits. She is survived by her three children: John Wyatt who resides in North Carolina with his wife Sue, Virginia Mathews who lives in Oceanside, and Mary Lou Tiner who lives with her husband Tim in Colorado. Barbara would also proudly show you pictures of her 11 grandchildren: Sarina May, Leonard Wyatt, Julianne Bounds, Colin Grover, April Wyatt, Joshua Tiner, Janna Clark, John Wesley Wyatt, Matthew Wyatt, Josiah Tiner, and Josef Tiner. This past year Barbara added 2 new great-grandchildren to her total of 20 great-grandchildren. She also has one great great-grandson.
Her family was amazed by her ability to remember each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s birthdays. She would never fail to send a card or gift. Barbara would remember significant events that were going on in their lives as well. For her family, one of their fondest memories was getting to spend time with Grandma one-on-one at family reunions and get-togethers. She had the gift of making each member of her family, young or old, feel special.
One of Barbara’s greatest joy came in serving at her church. She is best remembered as “Mom Wyatt” to many who were in the youth group where she served as a youth leader. She also taught Sunday School, and worked as an Awana leader. Her faith, love, and testimony influenced many young lives and years later she was still known and loved as “Mom”. In recent years she picked up the hobby of tatting and tatted beautiful cross bookmarks, which were given as gifts to people in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and South America. Barbara Wyatt was an inspiring Christian woman who never hesitated to contribute to her church and other ministries.
For the past year Barbara has fought a difficult battle with cancer, but as in everything she did, she fought with grace, faith, and a positive attitude. She has left her family and friends an amazing legacy of faith, hope, joy, and love.
Barbara would readily remind everyone that her life was a journey. On that journey she lived an amazing life. She loved and was loved by so many. She worked and persevered through the hard times. Through it all she kept her faith, because she had one goal in mind. Although her family and friends feel sorrow for their loss, there joy in knowing that she’s reached her final destination. The Lord has welcomed her home with these words: “Well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
