She was the last child born of that union.
All her siblings preceded her in death. James H. Stevens, William J. Stevens, Zackie H. Stevens, Lilliemae Stevens, Mary E. Stevens-Graham, Pauline V. Stevens-Hatcher, Alice Stevens-McClelland, and a niece raised as a sister, Clara Jinks-Williams.
In her younger day, she was a substitute teacher in Port Royal South Carolina.
While there, she met and married young Marine, George Mitchell. Her beloved husband died 2 days after their 72nd Anniversary in 2016. Now they are back together.
Barnettia was a woman who loved her family, and had love for anyone she met.
She used to say "You may not LIKE what some people do, but you love them anyway."
She was a Lifetime Member of The Oceanside Sea Lions, where she had been the Area Chairman of The Miss Oceanside Pageant. She had been involved in the Pageant for over 30 years.
She enjoyed attending Church at The Camp Pendleton 13 Area Chapel. She had a DEEP love for her Lord and Saviors God and Jesus Christ. Rarely was she without her Bible, and nearing the end of her time here on Earth, she called out to them daily......ALWAYS assured They would have mercy on her.
Always one with a HI and a friendly word and smile, she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her 4 children, George Mitchell Jr, Frederick Mitchell, Bruce Mitchell, Yolanda Mitchell-Sheets (David, his daughter Lilli Osborne/Travis & their children Teagan & Tanner Osborne) Grandchildren Bruce Mitchell(Tiffany) Brianna Mitchell-Brockenborough(David), Emmy Bachini, Great Grandchildren Milah Mitchell and Cruz Mitchell. There is so much more to be said of this wonderful woman, and in the future a Celebration of her life will highlight so much more.
