

MUNROE, Dorothy Mae, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Daybreak Retirement Villa in Escondido, CA where she has been a resident since August of 2015. Ms. Munroe was born in Somerville MA and grew up in Arlington MA. Dorothy lived in Lexington MA for her entire adult life, and relocated to Oceanside, CA after her retirement in 1985. Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Betty Owens, in March of 2015. She is survived by her niece, Gail Patten and her husband Timothy of Londonderry NH; and her nephew Kenneth and his wife Victoria of Framingham MA.
Dorothy served in the Marine Corps from October 1943 until December of 1945, during which time she was stationed at Quantico. After her discharge, Dorothy spent her entire working career at COX Engineering Company as their Office Manager and Bookkeeper, retiring from Cox in 1985. Dorothy also joined the Marine Corps Reserves in March of 1947 and attained the rank of Staff Sgt. before her discharge in July of 1953.
Dorothy was an active person, a giving volunteer, and a beloved friend to many who knew her. She joined the Women’s Marine Association in 1967, and was a member until her death. She was one of the founding members of the Bay State Chapter of the WMA where she served as Treasurer, Vice-President, and President. She served the WMA at a national level in various capacities, and also served as the Treasurer of the CA-7 chapter. Dorothy also was also very active at the Methodist Church in Lexington MA, and also at the Methodist Church in Vista CA where she served as Assistant Treasurer and Assistant Secretary. Dottie was an avid golfer playing at Lexington Golf Club in MA, and at Ocean Hills Country Club in CA. Dorothy loved golf so much, she continued playing and volunteering at her country club up until her 90th birthday.
Services will be held for Dorothy at 10:00am on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Chapel at Eternal Hills Memorial Park located at 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA 92054.
