Eudora Telitha McDade stepped into Heaven on August 11, 2011, after a long illness. Eudora was born in Boughton, AR on August 26, 1921, to James and Elizabeth Dickinson. As the fourth of seven children, Eudora grew up on a farm in Prescott, AR, and graduated as salutatorian from Prescott High School in 1939. She was a secretary for the Farm Bureau in Arkadelphia, AR until she "retired" and moved to Santa Monica to marry the love of her life, Tulas McDade in 1948.
Shortly after their marriage, Eudora and Tulas (Mac), moved to Oceanside where he had a job waiting at the Deluxe Barber Shop. Four children came along and Eudora was busy being a loving mother and wife. She was involved with Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Camp Fire Girls, as well as being treasurer of the PTA.
Family vacations were usually spent waterskiing at the Carlsbad lagoon or on the Colorado River, or visiting with extended family in Texas and Arkansas. Mom was adept at planning all the necessities and food for camping trips, and even learned to swim so she could save the children if need be.
Eudora's Christian faith was lived out in her service at Service Memorial Baptist Church (now Generations Church) and at Oceanview Baptist Church. She and Tulas continued to be faithful servants as long as their health allowed.
Mom worked hard at the family business in Vista, and then became a cafeteria lady at Ditmar School, retiring in 1983 to help with the several grandchildren that had come into the family. The grandkids will tell of her love and devotion as the consummate grandmother. Eudora and Tulas made numerous trips around the US in their RV until the onset of his illness. Tulas passed away in 2004 after 56 years of marriage.
Eudora is survived by children James David of Oceanside, Elizabeth Sue (John) Crawford of Vacaville, Priscilla (Brent) Lindberg of San Diego, and Nancy (Frank) Roche of Vista, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; brother William Wuertz of Houston, TX, and sister Elsie Cole of Marietta, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and gratitude to Seasons Hospice and Emeritus at Carlsbad for the tender care given to Eudora in her final weeks on earth.
The viewing will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Mortuary on Monday, August 22, 2011, at 9:00 am, with the Celebration of Life to follow at 10 am. Please sign the online guest book at dignitymemorial.com.
