Mom left us a legacy of music. I doubt that she ever saw it as such, but the music affinities that run through our family started with her songs.  As a child, I remember her singing – nursery rhymes, alphabet songs, hymns, popular music (40s and 50s), and especially songs she made up at a moment’s notice!  Lawrence Welk was a regular Saturday night guest in our home.  I laugh when I think of her singing way off key in order to “motivate” us to do, or not to do, something.  We’d either laugh or cover our ears, but her “singing” would always accomplish her purpose.
Mom mostly sang from joy.  She never believed she had a good voice, but a technically good voice holds no candle to a voice sung from joy.  She’d sing in church, she’d sing doing dishes, she’d sing pulling weeds, she’d sing to us at bedtime, she’d sing when no once was listening.  But we were listening.  We heard songs from her childhood, ones she’d learned from her mother.  She sang silly songs to her grandkids, including “Tasha Dog” about a real family dog.  “You are My Sunshine” was loved, especially by Dannette (she, being the first grandchild, heard all the songs first).
Sometimes, Mom would sing from sorrow.  Comfort and peace came from lifting her tearful voice to the Lord and trusting Him to walk with her in the sad times.
We heard and we learned.  We sang to our kids, and they teased us, too.  They sing to their children (or will), and the legacy will continue.  We, too, lift our imperfect voices in joy and sorrow.  We, too, appreciate different kinds of music, even some that Mom didn’t like. There was singing in the McDade home, and singing will continue in the McDade families.  Mom still sings, and we are listening. Thank You, Lord, for Mom’s legacy of song.

September 11, 2011 I remember Mrs. McDade being such a kind and loving person. I spent many days in thier home in my high school years. Liz [Sue now]and I were good friends. Thier home was always a happy place to be and all were welcome. Although I have not seen any of the family in years, I will always remember thier kindness.

Eudora McDade and myself, Margaret Anderson, shared birthdays very close together, and the day in between those two birthdays I would call and sing “Happy Birthday” to her over the phone. She seemed to like it, and I know I liked doing it for her. I choose to remember the good memories about Eudora, such as the one I just stated, and I just am glad to know she is in a very special place in Heaven, and I look forward to the time when I may be able to be there with her.

Now Lord, I lift up the McDade family to you, and again I emphasize, I choose to remember the good things about Eudora and our friendship. I do all this in Christ’s name, Amen

I loved coming down to visit Grandma and Grandpa as a kid. We'd love the chance to play with the cousins and go to the beach. Grandma was so happy to see us, and it always felt like we had to leave too soon. I miss her so much but I know she's in a better place now with the Lord.

The McDade grandchildren were very blessed to have Eudora for a Grandma. We all have many fond memories of both our Grandparents. I’ll always remember Grandma as the encourager and supporter. She was always encouraging me to go for my dreams and to not settle for less. Her support in my education meant so much to me. I will miss her but I know she is in a far better place. I look forward to seeing her again someday in Heaven and swapping more animal stories with her!

My mother, Elsie talked often of her sister, Eudora and how she was such a precious, Godly woman who was a great help in a challenging time in her life. I was fortunate to spend some time with Eudora when she came to visit us in Ga. several times over the years. She was delightful! She will be greatly missed. Cindy

Mom was such an inspiration to my sisters and to me. The only times I can remember her raising her voice is when I had done something that was not very nice (I never misbehaved!), like riding my tricycle down the block to see the ocean (it was across the street when I was only a year old). I don’t remember her spanking me, but as I got older one of my Dad’s razor straps hung next to the kitchen stove, and the ultimate punishment from her was hearing her say “wait until your father gets home!” I really don’t remember him using it on me, but I’m sure he did!

Mom, I miss you very much. Your beautiful smile, hair, and sparkling eyes I’ll treasure forever (I’ll also miss your wit and sarcastic comments). Thank you for also encouraging me along life’s journey, raising me in a Christian home, and for being my best friend! I look forward to the day when I see Jesus Christ, and you and Dad are right behind Him to welcome me to Heaven!

My grandmother was a very special, Godly woman, who has been an inspiration to all of our family. She has been the most loving, kind, and supportive influence in my life. I believe all of our family follows her example, and her legacy of loving Christ with all your heart, soul, mind, body, and spirit is being lived out through her children, grandchildren, and is now being passed on to her great grandchildren as well. 

Grandma was always there for me, loving me and gently correcting me when I needed it. Even during those times of correction, it was always clear that she was not judging, and that she just wanted what was best for me. I can only hope that I can be as great an influence in my children's life as my grandma has been in her children's and grandchildren's lives. If I can be half as influential as she has been, I will count my blessings when I see her again and meet Jesus face to face. Even if I fall short, I know she will still be proud of me. Grandma and Grandpa are the biggest reasons I know who Jesus is, and how I came to love him, and understand that he loves me. 

Grandma, you are deeply loved and missed, just as grandpa is still, and will continue to be. I take comfort in knowing you are both resting in Jesus, and that I will see you both when my time comes for Jesus to bring me home as well.

Eudora talked often about the farm in Prescott, Ark where she grew up.  

The animals were important to her.  There were: beef cows, milk cows (named Buttercup, Daisy, Flossy, Jersey, Red, Pansy, Patsy, and #8).  There were goats, sheep, turkeys, chickens, pigs, mules (Jack & Kate), horses (Charlie & George), house cats (all named Snowball), dogs (black Air dales all named Coally) and numerous barn cats.  It was especially hard when they realized they were being served their favorite chickens or calves for dinner. 

They also had a large family garden where there were:  Apple, Apricot, Peach, Orange, Pear and Pecan trees, Beans, Beets, Blackberries, Strawberries, Cantaloupes, Cherries, Dewberries, Cabbage, Celery, Corn, Lettuce, Mustard Greens, Okra, Peas, Peanuts, Potatoes, Radishes, Tomatoes, Turnips, and Watermelons.   This was all in addition to the Cotton crop they farmed commercially, and where all the kids had to work to pick that cotton!

  Quotes Mom often told us kids from her Mother, Elizabeth Dickinson:  
"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.  Patience can do many things, Have you ever tried it?

If a string is in a knot, Patience will untie it.  If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."

And (even though she kept a very clean house):  "There was dust when I came in, There will be dust when I leave."

Mom, there is no way I will ever be able to express what a wonderful mother you were to all of us.  I have no idea how you raised four of us, and then 9 grand kids!  One of my earliest memories was back when you would read the Bible to us, and then tell us Bible stories.  We all knew at such a young age how important Jesus was to you and Dad - and how important He was to us!  You also said how you could not be like your Mother, who never complained, or talked negatively about others.  Wow - you sure modeled those qualities for me! And finally, a special memory for me was when I was about 10 years old, you mentioned your hands were always rough.  I argued with you that they were the softest hands of anyone.  (And I truly believed that!)  Your response was that I was just feeling all your love.  Thank you Mom - I did, and still do feel all your love!  Pris (AKA - "Prissy"!)

As the oldest grandchild and having the treasured benefit of living so close to Grandma and Grandpa that I was nearly as much raised in their home as my own, I was able to witness every day life for Grandma after retirement. Now that I am a young mom I am discovering that she was quietly lighting my path with examples of righteous living. She put in to practice the teachings of Mark 12:28-31 and Proverbs 31. With such grace, she exhausted her resources to fulfill her God-given responsibilities as wife, mother, friend, neighbor. She ironed her husband's clothes, even the every day shirts! She took meals to friends, watched neighbor's kids,and maintained a well-running household by keeping track of every little detail, from a gallon of milk being needed to what bills were due when, even when she didn't write the check. She stopped to teach her grandkids anything they wanted, like how to type on her typewriter, play dominoes (she was a math genius), sew, make jello and more. She automatically took on the task of feeding everyone in her home at any given meal and did all of the prep, serving and clean-up without complaint. As I look back I see she was hard at work, lighting a path of faith lived out practically. She was a beautiful woman. I am honored to walk in faith behind her, in the path she has lit before me. Dear David, Pris. Sue and Nancy,and families,Bill and I send our most sincere condolonces to all of you in the loss of your mom. Bill is not able to comunicate anymore but I know he would be so saddened by her passing.We only got to see her on summer vacations but he spoke of her as the big Sis back on the farm in Prescott Ar. She is in the arms of Jesus and that is a comfort. Our love to all.

My dear sister Eudora made a difference in so many lives, including mine. She was always there for me. She was a blessing to her children and her grandchildren.  I will miss her so much.  Elsie
