Eugene Andrew Mee

Gene was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 25, 1928. His parents Francis Mee and Helen Mee raised 6 children: Francis, Eugene, Patricia, Miriam, Roy, and Joanne.

He was married to Lucy (Lacerda) Mee, May 16, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Gene graduated in 1946 from West High School for Boys located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He spent his career working for Kresge, then K-Mart Corporation as a store manager and district manager. His work moved him from the East Coast to the West Coast at the beginning of the 1960s.

Gene enjoyed vacationing, golfing, reading, and entertaining family and friends from across the country. For many years he helped organize the yearly fair at St. John’s Catholic Church in Encinitas.

Gene is survived by his wife, Lucy who resides in the family home in Encinitas. Gene and Lucy have three children: Linda Saleski married to Mark Saleski, Eugene Mee, Jr., and Catherine Ladd married to Patrick Ladd.

Gene and Lucy have seven grandchildren: John Slusarz, Peter Slusarz, Eugene Mee III, Casey (Dunlap) Bull, Taylor Dunlap, Devin Ladd, and April Ladd. They also have four great grandchildren: Oliver, Gage, Oakley, and Carter.

Gene was predeceased by his parents as well as his siblings Francis, Patricia, and Miriam.

A funeral mass will be held on December 4, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Encinitas. The burial will take place at the Old Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside at 11:30 AM immediately followed by a reception at the Jolly Rodgers in Oceanside Harbor.

Gene lived his life with devout faith in God and a sincere love of his family and friends.
