Born the oldest of three children on March 12, 1939 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Ollie Mae Stepter Weaver (3-10-17 to 9/1/91) and George Everard Owen Weaver (2-23-00 to 11/29/78), George Albert Weaver, Sr. learned the value of hard work and the importance of family early in life. George was charged with becoming the “bread winner” for his mother and two younger siblings, Delano L. Weaver-Wilson (10-5-45 to 1-15-97) and Franklin L. Weaver (died 11-15-57), when his father left his mother to raise three very young children.
Given the weight of having to share in the financial responsibilities of the household, George graduated from The Most Pure Heart of Mary High School in Mobile, Alabama in June 1956 at 17 years old and promptly joined the United States Marine Corps on June 30, 1956.
During his tenure in the Marine Corps, George Weaver served in Lebanon, Vietnam (around Chu Lai), Hawaii, Camp Lejeune, and Quantico, VA. From 1956 to 1968 he served as a Platoon Sgt., Ontos Commander, Company 1st Sgt., and an instructor at Quantico. From 1968 till he retired on June 25, 1976, he worked in supply and finished as a supply officer.
In 1961, while heading back to Quantico, Virginia after being home on leave Marine Corporal George Weaver met a young missionary on the bus named Elizabeth Lollar who was returning from a training session with a local women’s group in Mobile, Alabama. The two talked the entire trip. They continued to speak while George waited for his bus to continue on to Quantico. After corresponding off and on for two years, they were engaged within two months of their second meeting and married on August 15, 1964.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, George moved his family from Kaneohe, Hawaii to Oceanside, California. There George worked as a Service Station Attendant at MCX Camp Pendleton, a Warehouseman/Forklift Operator at the Exchange Warehouse, a Laborer – Trash Collection Engineer, a Laundry Machine Operator, a Warehouseman – Direct Stock Support Center, a Warehouse Worker Foreman, a Tools and Parts attendant and leader, and a Material Expeditor/Material Expeditor supervisor.
It was important to George to earn his college degree after his retirement from the Marine Corps. As such, he attended Mira Costa College in the evening after work, where he eventually earned an Associate’s Degree.
George is survived by his four children and three grandchildren: Regina Kaye Ambrose (daughter) (Husband Don), George Albert Weaver Jr. (son) (Wife Charisse), Leilani Juanita Weaver-Murray (daughter), Christopher Franklin Weaver (son), Dominique Murray (grandson), Don Ambrose II (grandson) and Makayla Ambrose (granddaughter). His niece Nikole Wilson-Ripsom (Husband Troy, son Ben) and a host of family and friends whose lives he touched in a uniquely special way.
