Gina was born on December 4, 1963 in Santa Monica, California. She entered into rest on January 12, 2016 at her Solana Beach, California home with her husband and son nearby. She was preceded in death by: her father, John Bohannan; mother, Gwendolyn Putnam Bohannan; and sister, Carol Travis. She is survived by: husband, David Rogers; brother, John Bohannan; sister, Lori Brown; son, Ryan Rogers, daughter Linda Sherburne; granddaughters, Madison and Cora Sherburne; and family, relatives, and friends.
Gina — beloved wife, mother, and grandmother — was a champion of all of God’s creatures, big and small. Her devotion to raising her children was coupled with a tireless desire to serve all that needed extra love: the elderly in need of physical and emotional support; patients waiting in the emergency room at Scripps Encinitas in need of comfort; animals at the Baja Animal Sanctuary in need of food and shelter; various wild creatures in need of help. Caring for others was in her DNA.
Gina loved to travel and her happy nearly-23-year marriage to David was spent journeying throughout the world. However, home base was always in the San Diego area. She graduated from the Bishop’s School in La Jolla in 1981, received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Information Systems) from the San Diego State University in 1987, and received certification for Adult Education/Community College Instructor from the University Of California, San Diego, College of Extended Studies in 1998.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to an animal support organization of your choice such as the Baja Animal Sanctuary, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and Project Wildlife.
I’ll Walk Beside You
By Luka Bloom
I'll walk beside you through the world today
While dreams and songs and flowers bless your way
I'll look into your eyes and hold your hand
I'll walk beside you through the golden land
I'll walk beside you through the world tonight
Beneath the starry skies ablaze with light
Within your soul love's tender words I'll hide
I'll walk beside you through the eventide
I'll walk beside you through the passing years
Through days of cloud and sunshine, joys and tears
And when the great call comes, the sunset gleams
I'll walk beside you to the land of dreams
