When World War II broke out, Jim was in his second year at Occidental College. The army approved him for pre-med studies at Baylor University and later, he studied medicine at the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in Little Rock.
Jim and Dottie met at a medical school dance on Valentine’s Day while Jim was a second-year medical student. Dottie’s friend thought she should meet Jim—that they’d be the perfect couple. Boy was she right!
After a residency and medical corps army service in Arkansas and Kansas, Jim returned to San Bernardino, California, where he practiced radiology at San Bernardino Community Hospital for over 30 years. He also raised three kids through college, survived the Hippie generation and still was able to smile and keep his sense of humor.
Jim and Dottie retired in Oceanside and Jim enjoyed many activities such as tennis, square dancing, ballroom dancing, and traveling and cruising worldwide. He was also an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver.
Jim is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dottie; two sons, Eric (wife Kathy), and Jeff; a daughter, Karen; two grandchildren, Kyle and Diana; and two great grandchildren, Colton and Kara.
Jim died peacefully January 24, 2020 in Oceanside California.
